heya, started modelling the head of a 3d character i designed (i posted a scetch i did of the character a little while ago). started this yesterday evening. i'm extremely new to 3d, (don't even know how to use the 3d app properly yet, still learning) so i'm not expecting too much from this model. crits/comments welcome.
here's the front view of the model i used as reference.

Looks like a quite good start.
What I would be worrie dis that it will end quite flat face. Section of a head is rather round. The face is not a planar thing in the front. Some asians (japanese) have it more that way though.
This is a very common problem when modeling a head. It is good if you could first create more surface before going to detail. That way you are more likely to get the proportions right. It is also very tedious work to change detailed geometry afterwords.
My first digital heads were absolut crap and I believe that it is just exercise that helps. Human face is very difficult because your eye picks unnatural features so easily.

By the way, what software are you using.
Here are two faces I am working on at the moment. They are both created using patches (surfacetools) in 3ds max.

No it is not Anthony Hopkins though I noticed it myself too.
I used Steve McQueen as rough reference but as I changed the nose smaller it started to resemble a lot of mr Hopkins. Both guys have (had) quite round head which affects alot.
btw. check my post about painting on top of rendering.

here's an update (screenshot)... btw, this is in lightwave6.5 . like u'r models kerosene
i knew what u meant by the flat face thing for the first pic. i had to adjust it a bit once the face was becoming more complete.

you might want to make a sketch of the back of your character as well to make it easier to do when you get to it |
