This is something I'm doing with a bit more "finish" than usuial. and as such I'm interested in the little details etc. Been looking at some old fashon books lately. Some very cool costume design ideas can be found there^_^. this is just a little test I did on top of a sketch, it's changed a lot from the original (I'll post it along with a bunch of other stuff when this is finished).
I was after some comments from fresh eyes. It's pretty much finished save some extra polishing.

hey this looks great as it is Rinaldo, I like the style. Don't really think it needs more defining (xcept for maybe a few touches with the hair like Jezebel said).
Maybe make the shadow cast from the hat on her hair a little stronger tho, like u did with the face.
ohh yeah, I do love that hat!!
now if I can only find one in my size...

That's cool as it is... but if you wanna really go into details, you could add a brooch or a ribbon or pendents or whatever.. a small shiny thing *soundslike Cat in RedDwarf :p* But it is already a cool portrait, imho.

Don't know what you are aiming at, so it might just be perfect as is. Nice 20s touch to it, she comes across proud and slightly arrogant, yet sensitive. The left edge of that band on her hat seems to interfere with the shape of her head, though, it would not fit in IMO.
Overall nice work, weird hat! ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Looks very nice. I like how the color of the hat is affecting the color of the shadow on her face. Hmm.. I'd add some more shine to the lips and the hair, and maybe some little more detailed area to the flounce too.

Hey Rinaldo! It is an excellent pic to begin with but if you add some little details in there it will look much cleaner.
I hope you don't mind but did a quick finishing of your pic to illustrate what I mean.

RobT, I see you're also a man of detail - people, don't get this wrong, I love stuff that look painted (am not too good at that when using the computer, i.e. I'm a PS user). I was just thinking about the vagueness of the image when I started reading this thread and here you go, give us a sharper version. Of course if it was up to me, I'd emphasize the lighting and work on the hair on the jacket, but anyhow, nice work both of you. |

thanks everyone, sorry for taking so long to reply. I appreciate all your comments very much
I was kinda taking it from granted that I would add the extra details later. I set out the basics first and leave any little bits for last.
Jaymo-that's pretty much what I was going for you're right about the hat as well. I'll have a go at fixing it.
Rob-cool I'm still getting into the swing of putting in the details, I like what you did with it. I'm not sure about how you steped on the eye reflection, It might not be that intense. the fur especialy looks nice.
One thing I'm still not quite clear on, and this goes to your comment as well Marvel, can someone give a definition of what they mean by "the painted look"? I'm guessing what you're talking about is impresionistic, and more visible brush strokes?
I've never really connected "painted" with a lack of detail. Interesting. |

I did a repaint a few days ago but my comp crashed and that was that, but I guess my only point was to give the various materials different feel from each other.
Are we gonna get to see how it progresses?

Sempere-hey thanks My personal preference is towards leaving it unfinished. I love sketchy things. but I need to practice working it up more, simply because it's something I haven't done much of lately. The good thing with Digital is you can save it out at this stage and then work it up. the best of both worlds^_^ |

the plunging neck line is too sharp... seems to be the primary focal point may want to look it over. Otherwise looks good. i even like the orginal image post.
