Aight, she forgot the elbow guard from her sword arm in the tent. The sword's either magical or she's got hidden muscles or the shield is just a prop for posing.

Nice work, are you painting this in direct digital? Or scanning and painting? Just curious. With regards to the shrinking head- I think she has more appeal with the larger head, but this make her look more anime, whereas with the smaller hed, she looks far more realistic- which way do you want to go with her?

Keep 'em coming!

Paul

direct digital

in the sketch the head is about 1:7.5 proportions, which roughly equals to a hero proportions in manga

in the painted ver i guess it's something like 1:9 or something silly like that

Ok, redid the head to follow the sketch shape and started doing the armor. Damn leg plates are currently going straight to hell. Gotta figure out a light source and stick to it and maybe smack some nifty burning sky background to it.

and yes, the topic is just about as cliche as they get, ha!

Someone's been browsing through some Icewind Dale art :]
I like the B&W more than what the colored pic is coming to. Maybe work on a bigger rez and let us see more detail in the stuff she's wearing?
The armor doesn't look half as interesting as the B&W which looked more like rags & stolen jewelry.

Yeah, think of a color scheme beforehand, add bground!

Not me!

I am working on a bigger rez (1200x1600), I'm just posting these small images because that way you can't see my fidgety lines of hell and they load faster. I can't do rags & stolen jewelry *sniff*, so I'm doing this lame bronze plate mail instead.

Totally forgot about the color scheme, khihihii...

Filling a hundred page a4 sketchbook will already make a huge difference in your lines. I'm assuming you don't use a mouse.

You already have good stuff going on in the 1st and 2nd pic, I hate to see it ran over with the armor plates :]

A beat-up tiny Wacom with a pen that has a worn out chiseled nib makes my lines jumpy ;]

working res, bad quickie gradient wipe background, silly looking aluminium leg armor and whatnot. And the head is still bugging me so very very much.

Wow, you see a lot more in the working res!
What in particular is bothering you about the head? So far, it's as impressionistic as the rest of the image. I think its a great start! How tight will your final rendering be?

If I were to do anything in the head region, it would be to better define the area where the neck meets the head, and maybe soften up some of the lighting transitions.

very strong female postion. looks like she don't need any guys. should put her in a halloween party with her posing for the camera.. others in the background drinking and carring on... if you wanna light'n it up.

Man! I really dig that first sketch. As for the painting it's looking good so far. But I can't sense any atmosphere comming out. She has a pale skin tone and her armour is grey, black, and dark gold, and she is against this warm red golden backdrop. My advice would be to make the backdrop more cold and misty. Have you seen "Gladiator"? Look at the begining battle. Everything is shot in a cold, blue, saturated style. Kinda like that. If your going for the sunny, warm look, then try and make her colours more warmer.
