This is a first go over for an idea i had of some troopers going up to the front. They're replacements for casualties, and aren't looking forward to being in the "meat grinder".....

I sketched with reference (Nam photo) in pencil, now I'm working it up in PhotoShop.

Any hints? Mostly I'm looking for help or suggestions about the (poor) PS technique....

Cheers, A.

Hey, man, I think you've got some good stuff going here.

I don't know what you fee is lacking in your phtoshop style, but I think the helmet on the guy is quite good, the reflections and lines give a nice rendered shape while maintaining a graphic quality. You may be thinking you need to have a more photorealistic style, but I disagree. I think you have a good painting/drawing blend technique (and I'm trying to work on the same thing).

Keep going!

Wow, that's sweet. My only complaint is it's not finished! :P I think if you work the entire piece with the same brush style it's gonna rock. It vaguely reminds me of something Bilal might do. His color work has a lot of visible hatch lines which really give it a lot of form and vitality.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys, it's really interesting that you seem to like the style with the combined linework and painting, as many of the comments I have had in the past for other works have been that I should get rid of the linework! I tyhink that maybe because this is pencil lines, and therefore a lot softer than the ink lines I often use, that it has a better effect.

Thanks again for the encouragement, stay tuned for updates shortly. Wednesday (tomorrow) night here is normally my best drawing/ painting night as they play 6 hours straight of heavy metal, black metal, power metal, etc. on one of the radio stations! I can just tune in, zone out, and DRAW!
