Sorry, just cranking away on these character portraits. Yep, if it hasn't loaded by now you can still hit BACK and not have to go through the horror of looking at another piece of mine
This's the third of the three projects I'm currently working on, a Half-Elf Rogue named Mlaanie. I was kinda stuck a week or two ago but I got some inspiration and went to town on the armor and whatnot. Bad thing is, I still need to upsize this thing at least two fold and I went and started rendering details that'll all get blurred out when I do so...when will I ever learn?
So, obviously the armor isn't complete yet, still finalizing the design of it as I go so lighting is all screwed and pieces are unfinsihed here and there...the lower half in particular was rather rushed since I'm getting tired here. Ignore the head!! It was an experiment in blocking stuff in with the Opacity checkbox unchecked and I'm changing the face anyway, don't hurt me because of the head. There're two versions here as well, one with and one without her crossed belts and scabbards (well, only one scabbard painted in so far). Just wanted you to see what it looks like with and without them and get comments on the armor design since I'll be thinning the belts out a bit more.
So, any comments, suggestions, critiques are once again appreciated. I'll be updating this pic through the next week or two, just like the other two portraits I posted here.

Hey! These are the same pic! I want my money back!
Crit wise: I would wonder why an armored knight would look bashful and shy. Hold that head high, woman! |

I'd say you need to work on the face some, it looks out of place. Good job overall though. |

I agree that the head needs some work.
Since she is a Rogue i would not expect any Plate armor since its hard to move silently with a half ton of steel wrapped around you lol.
And maybe give her a nice black cape with a hood.
But its a nice pic again.
(I want to see a Troll Shaman soon hehe) |

Ack! I told you guys to ignore the head, heh. Seriously, it's the reminants of my first pass on this piece, most of which got painted over on the pass I made last night. The only major thing I didn't get to totally (and I mean totally redo) is the entire head.
Serenth: All sales are final, no money back I know what you're saying though, one of the reasons I'm redoing the face. The personality is supposed to be a somewhat sly and stealthy yet small and cutsey Rogue, not proud and haughty or tough knight. It didn't come out in the face so, besides the fact that I didn't like the technique I was using to start it, I'm taking a different approach to it. I did a slew of quick thumbnails showing poses that expressed different emotions and this is the one the client picked so I'm kinda bound to it. She's supposed to be holding her two swords behind her back so adding those and a slightly more mischievious smile to her face should help get the point across. Hopefully I'll get some more crits when I post the update and see what people think of the personality it portrays.
Eshara: Well, yeah, it does suck pretty bad, I have to agree, which is why I'm redoing the head entirely Glad you like it so far, I'm hoping to have an update by the weekend with a link to a high res version as well.
Xar: Ok.. ok.. the head needs some work, hehe. And yeah, never made sense to me that Rogues wear plate armor such as this but I can't remember the last time anything made sense in Everquest. This is what the client asked for so I'm giving it to them and they're quite happy with what I've got so far. They wanted layer plate armor with nifty scrollwork here and there and.. well.. there it is heh. I'll have to see if they want a cloak though, forgot to ask this time around...the first image I did for this person specifically called for no cape so maybe that's why I forgot about including one. Good idea though. And I don't have any requests for Troll Shaman commissions just yet but it's only a matter of time before I do
Thanks again for the crits all, it gives me a few more things to think about. If anybody else wants to add ideas or comments on the character or my technique feel free to do so since I'll probably only get back to working on this again on Friday. Back to work though...

I like this pic... I think it looks better with the scabards but without the buckles on the leg armor. I personally like her expression. It would fit even better if you would draw the tip of her sword down behind her feet, like she is holding it in back of her not wanting you to see it. |

Well, here's an update on the pic before I send it out for approval on the changes made thus far. As you can see, the head was totally redone and I also made some changes to the armor according to thoughts from the customer. If anybody has any thoughts on what I've got so far it's be appreciated before I go through and start cleaning this up and adding the final lights and darks.
Here we go...
oh yeah, mac65, thanks for the comments. And you know, you pretty much nailed where I'm going with this pic...I haven't put them in yet but the whole idea of the pose when I sketched it up was that she'd be coyly holding her swords behind her back
Thanks for the comments again everybody, more from others or updated thoughts from those that already posted would be great, as well.

[edit] hmmm, looking at this again I think I still need to shrink the eyes a tad. That and I need to really get the final values on the face as a whole nailed down. What do you people think?
