ceenda's picture inspired me to give painter classic a try again but i have serious problems getting the color in.
I have come so far yet:
and I would like to render this picture now but i cant find a good way to do so...
either the brushes are too small- then i can only work with cross hatching or the brushes are too big, then everything looks blotchy or has strange textures (oil brush).
could anyone give me some tips how to advance here?
p.s. I am sure the drawing has a lot of anatomical errors because I try to get away more from using reference.
p.p.s. that black blotchy thing there near the left eyes is where the brush suddenly played crazy.

i don't use painter classic, but in Painter you can change the brush sizes. There must be some way to do so in classic...
... if not, then try resizing your image to correspond to your brushes.
Anyway, there are 3 ways to resize in Painter. 1) open the size panel under the control menu on the brushes palette. 2) open your controls palette and move the size slider when you have your brush selected. 3) on a mac, hold down command and option while dragging your pointer to resize your brush on the fly.
nice drawing btw |

Hey Nex!
I've recently been doing all my work in painter classic. The tool I use most often is Brush>Small Fine Brush or the Big Fine Brush. I find it real easy to blend colors with these. But definately do not limit myself to these 2 tools I also use the airbrush, and pallete knives. Also other brushes to get texture and edges. To get the details in and make it appear less blotchy I usually block the painting with mid-values, primary colors(very roughly). Then I up the res to 3000 pixels or something crazy like that.
If you want to vary your brush size just press ctrl+alt and drag you're mouse/tablet to the size you want.
an example of what I've done with this technique:
low-rez: http://digpoyn.tripod.com/cupidboardsm.jpg
high-rez(res I worked in): http://digpoyn.tripod.com/cupidboard.jpg
Hope this helped! |

Thanks you three
I knew I could vary the brush size on the panel but somehow I could not get used to the way opacity and pressure sensitive size are handeled then- When I pressed hard I would have a big brush size that was hard to control and with less pressure the opacity was too low..
I will try with the small fine and big fine brush/palette knife and try to try it the way above suggested.
Thanks for the examples/help |
