Hola everyone. I'm back with another new work in progress, this time some 3d for you. Hopefully since my 3d stuff is a little better than my paintings, I can at least get a few people to reply, unlike my poor painting.
I've been working on this for about 4 hours now, so it still has a long ways to go but I thought I'd see what you all thought so far. I really like the lovable bruiser stereotype character (like the guy with the gun arm in FF7, I can't remember his name, I know it starts with a B though) and that's what I was going for here. The edge loop structure is pretty weak on this one, hopefully I can make better use of edge loops in my next model. Tomorrow I'm going to re model the ear because it looks really bad right now and I'm also going to be moving it forward. Other than the ear though, how do the proportions look? Is the cranium to big in the profile? It kind of looks like it to me but I usually get things like that wrong so I can't tell. Anyhow here you go. If anyone wants to see a bigger pic tell me. I made it small to keep the file size down.

that looks good! but imo it looks a bit soft in some places.. if some of the edges were a little harder I think it'd improve his look some.
his chin though could be a bit rounder, I think, it looks sorta pointy.
actually, now that I look at it, his jaw is pretty short.. he'd look better if his jaw connected to his skull a bit farther back towards the ear. it makes him look a little weird in the side view, I think. the little 'swoop' in there going from the bottom of the jaw to the chin looks a little odd too, especially when highlighted.
his nose looks a bit squashed too, but I think that sorta fits the character.
ears.. yeah. you know. :)
actually seems like the space between the eyes and the nose is too small.. might work a little better if you grabbed the mouth and the nose and moved them up a little bit. it'd make his face seem less 'long' like it does in the front view.
I hope that helped some, and wasn't too much of a style critique. :)
btw, it was Barrett from FF7. |

You're definately right about the jaw. I think the ear should come forward and the jaw should go back some. Kind of meet halfway in the middle. I might harden the bridge of the nose a bit. I'm also planning on adding wrinkles to his forehead and defining his lips a lot more and maybe making them a bit bigger. The jaw/ear thing is pretty major though. I think that'll fix the problem of the skull looking too big in the profile. |
