Started this last night and worked some more on it tonight. Thought that I'd let a preview out.

for her hair to be blown that straight, i doubt she would be in such a relaxed pose. she would be bracing herself, if not being toppled

otherwise, i love it. the details, colors, and texture are fantastic.

I love the balance of the picture. I particularly like the slash in the earth.

Is it just me or does her waist/hip region closest to us seem to be wider than the body that is entering her clothing at the top?
I can relate some of it to her 'bum' shifting upward due to weight shifting of the stance, but it seems rather 'high'.

Of course the picture looks wonderful. in tone and shading.

Seeg, YOU the MAN! Absolutely beautiful. Love the colour variations you've got going in the skin. Not too much, not too little, just right.
I take it this is the same model you posted a portrait of earlier?

It depends on how light it is. Maybe her hair doesnt weigh anything.

Seeg: A lot of your pictures are stunningly rendered. I wish I could paint as well as you but I wish you would try more interesting motives. Many of your pictuers leave me the same feeling every time. I think you should study Sargent. He did a lot of the same subjects but kept most of them fresh and entertaining.

-- Anyway.. nice work. I'll take lessons any time! =)

Seeg, amazing, you didn't use any reference?

Im starting to getting into using acrylics, i have problems getting started, when you start to paint, how do you not go over the linework? do you start out with any linework?

I agree with Danny... the skin is just awesone, and so is the hair reflections... the anatomy is great as well... (too bad the landscape reminds me of Bryce or something =).

Will you be talking about skin tones and such at your GDC lecture?

I always use reference when doing work like this. sorry that the background reminds some of Bryce....Just painted it. It isn't finished yet though. give me some time to improve. I hadn't planned on talking much about skin colors at the GDC but I can add that if you would like....
Yes, she is the same model as the small painting I posted earlier. She will be with me at the GDC also..

forgot the line work question..I do start out with a sketch but do not pay much attention to the lines once I begin painting. You must always remember that there is nothing sacred about sketch lines and they are only a rough guide. At least they are with me. We were so praised for staying in the lines as kids with coloring books that it is hard to break that nasty habit...

This is stunning. The skin tones are just amazing, the hair is also beautiful.

Actually, it reminds me of Odd Nerdrums work. Have you ever heard about him Seeg? (I think hes quite known in USA..)

Yes, actually Odd's landscapes are the inspiration. I was looking for something bleak and desolate to contrast with the girl. His landscapes are just the ticket for that sort of look...

Hey Seeg,

Awesome, as usual. *sigh*

How do you feel about doing your digital work compared to your traditional oils? Do you prefer painting in one over the other? Your painting style is consistant from oils to digital, so since the result is the same, you must have a preference?
