Hey absolutely nothing wrong with Colour dodge/burn or layers..
I think it looks decent.. Its not really about how you did it.. its about getting the picture you want... right?
I think you did a good job on it. except you have some blurry lines and some harder edges and it doesnt look like you were going for depth-of-feild with this so you might wanna sharpen up the blurry lines. (in the wings is where I noticed it the most)

eek!
Yeah, those greens are bad. Lower part of the torso.. thought about that myself, i'll do it.
Sharpening might happen. Most probably will.
I'll work on it some more today. |

I find that really beautiful.
Could we get some of the blunt brush strokes a little more defined? The torso and the hair might look better with tad more contrast on them, or light reflected from the wings, they're very flat compared to everything else right now.
Any hint of a lower body? even some clothing? now it's kinda broken in half.
Don't kill the expression on her face! The greens in the background are maybe too saturated, a little ugly.

WHOAHOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOO!!
DAMN! That is one sweeeeeeet picture. <Drool drool> MAN! You did an awesome job and the added highlights on the face and stuff makes it so much more dynamic!!!
Don't have much in the way of criticism, but a suggestion.. Is it possible to add tears? I don't want to ruin your pic with that suggestion, but MAN! WOW! It's stunning! Love it! Good job. Post some more!!

There are tears.. they're just lost in all the glitter and dodge glow
Hmm.. background. Might happen. Would be pretty difficult to implement though, I'd have to repaint all the edges. Maybe a nice fantasy castle or whatever. aghfhgh. yeah. maybe.. not.
