I know the old topic is floating around somewhere, but the heading for it was just so wrong.

So, instead, I'll start posting my progress here. The guy I'm making the picture for wanted some more details added, as you might notice.

Any suggestions? Crits? Anything?

*stunned*

Don't really have much useful to say, I'm too awestruck to think of anything. --insert more ego stroking here--

The male face in the flames on the left is kinda more obscure, less apparent, than the female one down in the (gobsmackingly amazing) sea. That might just be because it's closer to the flames/hair. Dunno. *shrugs*

right now it seems as if the two additional faces are just overlayed on the image. i would integrate them more with the water and flames. like having the flames cling around the one head and the waves washing over the other... ...i dont know.

but, great details. it really is a marvelous peice.

Whoa! thats...awe-inspiring...

One thing: there's something strange about the lips of the fire face. but thats just nitpicking .

Good crits, everyone, thanks
Now, before I work more on this particular bit of it, peek at the face in the upper left corner... does it look better with the flames like that, or worse?

And how can I even get the water to lap against her face, that's really beyond me right now

The left is a male face, the right one a girl's, the one in the middle is supposed to be androgynous.

SlightlyTwisted: Yay! You have any suggestions as to how I could make the waves interact with the girl's face?

This face looks a bit masculine. Oh was this the picture where it was supposed to be half and half? If yes then you should try to contrast better between the genders.

very very nice though. You're master with fire and water

Enayla, you do beautiful work.

My only suggestion would be to make "blowing lines" as if the faces were blowing the fire and water... and puff the two faces cheeks a bit too.. but mebbe thats not what your going for soo......

shawncollette: Close-ups coming up!

S4Sb: Heheh, thanks. I'll run this by everyone again - the middle face is supposed to be androgynous. Meaning it's not supposed to be particularly feminine nor masculine. I think I've succeeded in that, since most people I've talked to had a problem seeing whether it's the face or a man or a woman. Which is the point

Awetopsy: Cool idea! But no, afraid that's not quite what I'm going for.

(Edit) added a reply to Awetopsy.

That is a really great concept. The only thing I think it *may* need is a little more blue tones on the right side. I think I would lighten up the dark areas at the bottom with an orange on the left and a dark blue on the right.

Lovely Enayla
Havn't taken the time to read everyones comments but the revised version with the more intense flames(left corner face) tends to draw the eye away. It'd work better if you compensated by applying something stonger to the oppisite side, though the centre may loose its emphasise and then the focal point disappears (asuming it was the centre).
perhaps just leave it...
A thought

That hair is great. Damn, both sides.
I would spice up the fire guy a little. Give him a more fiery expression.

Except don't make him look as much like Lt. Commander Data though.

[edit] and don't screw up the UBB either.

Won't continue this picture until on Thursday when I'm back at that job.

Chapel: The darkness coming from below is part of the concept of the picture - I'm not supposed to change that, though I can see that brightening it might've made the picture prettier I'll work on the blue on the right side of the image though!

SporQ: I'll try that

Lukias: I'll see if I can fix it! I haven't been able to get around to working on the right face yet, but...

Dthind:

Ben Barker: OooOooh! Looks cool! 'fraid I'm not s'posed to make him look angry though... Maybe I'll do another version to use as a poster on my living room wall though (Heheh, and that DOES look like Data!)

Dangermouse: Thankee

(edit) Spelling, spelling...

Beautiful picture as always. I'm in great awe of your talent.

There is something bothering me about the female/male face in the middle. Hers/His left eye (to our right) seems to be a little too high up and too far out to the side. The left nostril also seems to be a bit too high up. I know the eyes and nostril line up perfectly in photoshop but I would try moving them just a little, maybe just a pixel or two. I think it will be better.

Another thing: I'm not sure if you want it or not but the face lacks eyebrows

I agree. The eyes are completely level, but the face is slightly slanted. Either slant the eyes or straighten the face (my suggestion would be to slant the eyes).

Otherwise, WOW!

It's a great image, and I admire anyone willing to tackle water and flames in an image - they ain't easy.

As far as the center face, I only see a woman. Granted, she has some masculine elements, but the smoothness of the skin , the hair, the lips, and the eyes all project the image of a female.

As far as the fire goes, I think it's outstanding stuff, and the water is amazing as well (though it could use some pure white sparkling highlights perhaps - or yellow highlights to reflect a bit of the flames for a more unified picture... not necessarily what you want). Maybe some more waterish patterns too... like an eddy, and/or a whitecap? Initially I thought it may have been wind and not water...

At any rate, it's very very well done and more than I could hope to create.

Thank you SO much everyone for the very useful crits!!

I am getting honestly sick of this picture now, and I think this is the last progress picture of it I will post here... Maybe I'll smack the finished one up in the Gallery later... what do you think?

(Oh, and Spitfire... if you really want it printed... just ask.)
