Personally, I haven't posted yet because I haven't been able to see your image yet. Every time I click on this thread it takes too long to load. It's either too big or your server is too slow...one of these things you can help. I was hoping that replying and waiting a sec would help but it's still not loading. By the size of the area that the image is trying to load in I'm guessing that the image is pretty damn big...try downsizing it real quick.

Hi,
don't despair, you don't suck pal... Your pic is alright.
I've got one crit concerning the body though. Obviously you spent a lot more time on the face which is quite good but the body is kinda blurry.
Personnaly i prefer the first picture which is more focused on the face... the body being not so interesting.
Work on the outfit. That's pretty much all i can say! |

ahh!! at last!
Flinthawk-ok, sorry. Have fix that problem now. They are 24kb each.
Thx!
Al_kgs-Thx...i now i dont suck.
Yea, its more funny to paint faces, in the start there where just a face, the body was not on my mind, so thats why. Will work more on the body.
You prefer the first one? hmm...i dont =), i think the first is to blurry.
Bubonic- thx man!

Ahhh, they load up faster than a speeding bullet now. Much better.
As for the image, I have to agree with what's been posted about the costume being a little blurry when compared to the face to clean it up a little. The S logo looks a little too big, too. I know you haven't concentrated on the body though. Oh, the shadow around the biceps doesn't look right...turn down the contrast a tad since it's in the light.
The face looks pretty good right now. The hair is coming along...try adding some sharper highlights and some dark lines going through the highlight area to indicate that slicked back hair that Superman tends to have. It'll help create a different texture from that of the face because right now everything looks like it's made from the same material. Use highlights and shadows to help indicate different surface qualities.
Hope that helps, it's looking great so far, finish it up.

Oh, I didn't mean textures in the sense of taking them and applying them like you would to a model. I'm saying that you should paint and keep in mind the surface quality of whatever part of the image you're on. If you're painting highly reflective metal then you'll expect sharp shadows and highlights. If you're painting dull metal then you'll have lot's of diffuse or blurry looking highs and lows. Cloth you'll see little contrast between the mid tones and highlights since cloth has a very rough surface so light won't reflect well off of it. That's what I meant, just to clear things up.

his face looks too old, try making the shadows on the right side of his face a bit lighter, or more toward the color of the skin

Nice work! I like the face structure.
But I have a few thoughts:
1) Compared to his arms and chest, his neck and face seems really skinny. Unless it a skinny boy wearing a plastic superman costume , you will need to add muscle mass to his neck or make the arms and chest thinner.
) His cape and costume seems to be made out of clay, or some really thick fabric. I think you should work on the cape more and try to make it feel thinner, that might be done by letting the structure of the muscles underneath affect it more, as it is now I think it has to much of an own shape instead of wrapping around the shoulder. IMO the fabric of the costume and cape also has got to much white in it, it could need sharper highlight.
Keep going!

nice! i like....
only one or two crits.....
1. the face looks kinds old and frail. reminds me of Ronald Regan Supes is supposed to be big, strong, and badass...make him that way.
2. the hair is to fro-ish. looks like Jimmy Hendrix or that guy from the Wallflowers. Clark slicks his hair....supes should reflect that as well....
other than that i think it is awesome. his body/chest looks strong and built.....the way it should. i like the BG....looks like he's on Krypton or some shit....NICE WORK! POST MORE!

looks better poxen. But, still, I know it's very hard, but try to simplify things even more. Try to think of him as a polygonal character, faces and start simple and then like in 3d adding more faces to get more edges...picture him as a simple 3d shape.
But, don't get me wrong. Micke showed me that goblin you did, and you have really improved a great deal !
Btw, how old are you ?
