Happy New Year everybody!
My New Years resolution is to get off my @#$, and get a job doing something more interesting than I currently am. So I have begun to really lock myself down and do some finalized complete work (no more fun practice pics) I kind of like the way this one tunred out so far, it was done for the big Mech thread in the finished gallery. And after looking at it, I decided to take it further to go for a realistic final piece. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

thanks

Very cool, GC, very cool. I like the atmosphere you've given this piece, that foggy, jungle like feeling. The only crit I have for this piece is the mech design itself. I can't quite make out how it's not falling face forward into the muck. Maybe the feet extend farther behind those bushes in the foreground or maybe my monitor is too dark. Maybe if the legs angled forward just a little more it would look a little more balanced.

Otherwise, nice piece, I like the way the jungle was handled and it definitely has a marshy feel to the ground. Hope to see some more portfolio quality stuff from you soon.

This looks good, love setting & composition.

One thing though, some of the stuff looks transparent when it shouldn't. Examples: Man in background, mech face (?). Maybe you could work on that a little.

It looks great - my jaw nearly dropped when I first saw it in the mech thread.

What you might want to do is reduce by a large margin the headlight cone, as the sunlight is the overpowering light here, and there is no way a head light would the fog/smog more than the sun.

The back of the truck seems to pure black - pushing the general black to a somthing a small bit lighter in a greenigh hue to reflect the vegetation might work.

It took me a little time to see the guy standing in the water... there are brushstrokes making it blend with the vegetation behind him, as though his layer was 70% opacity or such.

Spooge mentioned that surfaces which are most parralel to our field of vision are more reflective, so the top of the mech could be slightly more reflective under the open sky area in the background.

I'd maybe tune down the green lights in the back a bit.

Sorry -- I guess I do tend to comment more on pics I like, and I love this one. Great work... you're making me very jealous.

I appreciate the comments. I did this very quick just to get in on the fun of the mech thread, so I didn't concern myself with being anal about it's creation. Maybe that's why I like it alot, cause it has the freedom that I think lacks in my pics. I copied yours, as well as the others comments into a simple text file, so I can have them as reminders of the suggestions when I finish this one up.

And on a further note, I think you have an excellent way of achieving materials and textures, and I really admire your work. I saw your mech post with the dramatic lighting from below, very nice!!!! If I had more time, I would love to give a some better commentary, however, an overall opinion of mine, towards your work is definitely a positive one.

thnx

Looks cool General reminds me of those early Star Wars conceptual illustrations.
I noticed you said it was a quicky but I see a lot of detail do you have some special technique for doing this?

Thnx guys for the comments

shadowman - I just pretty much had no real intentions to it. Mainly used the lasso tool and curves function to get alot of things happening that I normally wouldn't think of doing in a rendering sense, sort of let the "happy accidents" take place and form the pic, what you see here is about 2 to 3 hours work.

Transcendant - I';ll kee3p the soldier in mind, I wanted him to fade into the atmosphere, I guess I faded him too much

Poxen - so you demoted me to a captain , is that cause you don't like what I did? (just kidding) I used both, but this pic was done in Pshop, and typically I use Pshop exclusively.

later
