I've never tried this before, it's very funny.
I know there are a lot of really talented game artists hanging around here, I bet you're laughing good now.... Critics please, but be gentle.. Remember.. I'm a virgin...
OK, I give you..... scarface-badass-dude
As you see, it's in progress. Fits perfectly

Yes ,I know what you mean. I'm not very good in 3DStudioMax yet, and couldn't figure out what it was. I was looking and ooking, asking people over and over.. It turned out to be an alpha channel in the targa file (the texture). I was looking at the wrong place.
Anyway, now people can also see my poly's, and I thought that would be a great thing here in the forum. |

Well, looks like you've done texturing before based on this example... much better than my results for the first time
Hmm, in fact... I think you got first-hand help with this one! No way you could have done this good for your first time texturing something (unless you have a very good unwrapping utility).
Really nice work. Honestly, the facial quality is better than that found in Half-Life ofr the PC. How long did this take you to do -- modelling, unwrapping, drawing the the texture, and clean-up for the front of the face? I'm guessing 5 hours total. |

Looking good. If you want comments on the mesh itself, please post flat shaded render and wireframe from a few different angles, what is this for? Are you targeting any specific game or just a personal low-poly project?? Any set number of polys??

Thanks for the kind words, Structure.
Sergenth: Thanks for nice words. In fact, you're right. Micke has pointed out the way for me, I have seen him work. He showed me his and Joachim's incredible works on IGI. So you can say I haven't been working blindfolded.... But this texture and the model is my own design, he hasn't seen them yet. And yes. I have a very nice unwrapping utility, couldn't have done it without it. About the 5 hours, make'm 5 dino-hours...... haha.. As I said, it's my first, and I really don't know how much time I used.
Natec: Good idea. I'll post some angles, but now I don't have the time. The 3D works are on my PC, now I'm sitting on my Mac. And I can't get my damn network to work... It is just a personal project, I'd like to work with these things. It's not a set number of polys, I guess I should have tied my hands up a bit... Thanks for the useful hints, very nice of you.
Thanks Postman. If it' is like you say it is, then the big question is if I can deliver them, isn't it? These words cheered me up a lot! Now I work freelance as a Flash-webdesigner and illustrator, I'd really like to work with 3D. |

It's a good thing you took longer than 5 hours to do that... otherwise I would have had to stop you from having children and creating a race of super-intelligent modellers and texturers (which would proceed to eat all of my inferior children and grandchildren who inherited my powers of 3d :P
Humor aside, I'm going to spend some time tomorrow making a simple yet sweet model and texture test while I work. You have inspired me to try it all again. Hooray! |

The texture size seems waaaayyy too big for a lopoly ingame model but the quality is very good. Congrats.

Sergenth, Shaded, Inge, black_fish and shardik, thanks for the nice words. I'm very flattered.
I now consider the model done. I think the texturing part was easier than the modelling part. My model has some issues with the smoothing groups, but actually I don't care so much about that now. This is a learning process for me, and I think I'll learn more if I start on some new 3D instead. I need much more modelling time. The texture is waaaay to big this time too Black_fish, but it's easier to work that way. The renderings and the lights are really dull, but I kinda screwed things up trying to modify the smoothing groups. I ain't no viz in Max yet, I hope to improve my skills there fast.

It's pretty good. I can't even do 3D yet but I do have some knowledge on 3D. Try adding more poly to the hair... it looks like the Sims.

Hmm I work in the game industry and I do character texturing all the time and I can tell you that you did a great job..and the model is excellent...nice use of polys..how many polys is the head it looks very low poly?? ..you should keep this up,work of this quality gets noticed especilly if you can pull it off at such low poly count!!! ...
One thing though try adding smoothing groups to the head so your poly edges are not so noticable...a good smoothing should make it look a little less jagged...good work

Damn, but that's AWESOME work for someone who says he's not a goot game artist! DUDE, YOU ROCK!
I can't even begin to see how you could paint a skin like that and then have it wrap accurately around the 3D model. Blows my mind.
Great work, keep it up! |
