I'm a Fine Arts student now, at UBC in Vancouver Canada, and my first big assignment is a full life-size black and white self portrait. It has to be the same size of me, standing up. I decided to have some fun and use a darker, more stylized method than my classmates... based on the stuff micke has shown. so here's my li'l photoshop draft of the 7' X 3.5' final :

should stand out among the dozens of charcoal drawings I've seen the others do...

anyhoo, it's obviously in progress. the chest is till only blocked in, plus I gotta finish the wallet chain. I'll also probably change the irish newsies cap into a baseball cap. Those're my thoughts for now... crit away!

that s really nice turbo, i love the depth the perspective creates ; this kind of view is one of the most difficult to draw i guess, and you've done a great job there

bravo

thanks for the appreciation boys.... it's always nice to know I'm wanted hehe

silber : yeah, I used photo ref. I had to, considering the perspective... otherwise the porportions would be funky.

thanks again for your input!

Hey Turbo,

I had the same assignment over here @ SCAD. It looks a little bit like yours. Being 6'4 I didn't want to get to detailed. I used spray paint for the black but ended up having to paint all of the white in acrylic because I can't mask to save my life.

I like yours better

Zig : heh, I know what you mean... I'm 6'3" and I'm doing this with jiffy markers. Lordie, I'm gonna go through a lot of those suckers....

Jiffy markers? Man your going to have some crazy dreams inhaling that much marker gas. Looking really nice, my only crit is your right shoe, its a little too flat for me, maybe if you handled it a different way you could give it a bit more shape.

Zig : I see what you're saying.... I'll see what I can do. Another that's bugging me is my hand... I want the ring to stand out, but it gets lost in the shadow. Anyone know how I can improve it?

about the ring:
I think the ring shouldn't be darkened
by the shadow that much cause it reflects light
so you could set some fine highlights on it to make it stand out
well just an idea don't know if that what I said was correct
