this is another in the series of 30-minute exercises i've been doing with binke on irc. they're incredibly helpful!
the theme is in the name of the thread. the day before drawing this, i watched all 4 alien films in a row, so i have been muchly inspired by the palette from those films.
here's mine with about an extra 15 minutes of tweaking. i was bad when drawing, and spent about 25 minutes on the launch tower. #1 mistake was that i painting the launch tower on the background layer.. so getting anything underneath it was nigh impossible. 
i think i may expand the canvas and try to add some other elements to this. what do you think?

Love the lighting in this pic. Very nice detailing on the launch tower and very nice abstraction in the smoke and the shuttle itself.
great use of color too.  |

I like this pic alot! You can hear the "VWOOOOM!" in your mind as you take in the scene.
My only crit is that the shuttle looks a bit too dark. It looks a bit like a skyscraper in the background.
Anyway, great pic & sense of action here! Look forward to seeing more stuff like this. |

ok ill humiliate myself and post my 30min pic then.. I was atleast a *tad* more satisfied with this one, then with the whale-pic we did awhile ago. But it sucks donkey nuts anyway :P
Oh yea, ill rape your thread some more Jeff, I painted over your pic some more, from yesterday night.

Mmm..not just with binke, jeff... *cough, looks at the author of this post cough*
Anyway, you should just make one thread called "30-min sketches" and just dump every single one in here...should be fun. Also, post your Robo-sapien!

i like yours, binke. like i said before, the way everything looks rippled behind the engines exhaust is extremely cool.
i dunno about posting all my pics in one thread.. people didn't seem to like the whole 'image dump' idea before.
as for the robo-sapien picture... *cringe* ...i put another 30 minutes of work into it, so i guess it's a 1 hour study.
