Hey, repost from the old forum. I'm gonna do a bit more to this pic and wouldn't mind a few more comments before I consider it "final". Realize that it's supposed to be kinda abstract/painterly in places.

Ok, now tear it apart everyone .

As I said before, I think, I really like the face - and it looks just as good in black and white as it did in colour I'm simply in love with the eyes! Perhaps you should define and refine her ear a little, though - add some more shadows to it.

However, I'm not too in love with the excessive use of the smudge tool - perhaps it's all right where the hair is concerned, by the "background" doesn't really appeal to me. Especially not the black outline in between the hair and the smudgy grey things... I'm sorry :/

BEWARE - of the SMUDGY GREY THINGS! muhahaha
Seriusly now, i think it looks great, but the left side of her face (her left) needs more detail and work... especially the ear and the surrounding area...
Hair could use some more detail...

Eyes look really nice indeed! )

Nothing to be sorry about Enayla . I know it's not the greatest pic to hit this forum, and quite amateur. I appreciate your comments and will take them into consideration when I get a chance to work on her again. I wish I was better at all this stuff, but rather than try to be great right away(which I was doing) I figure I should enjoy my art - always try to improve on my skills and expect that greatness, with time, will come.

Thanks again for your comments.

Nice face Alloy. I love the Shenmue style that you have reproduced here. She kinda looks like a mix between Nozomi and Sha Hua from that game.

Thanks for noticing Sergenth! This was drawn using a Nozomi pic as a reference, then my sadistic - break away from reference and get creative side kicked in.

The face is excellent, but the left eye looks a bit askew to me. I think that even with the foreshortening you're trying to show that it would curve more at the end near the edge of her face.

Looks like you just gave up on the hair....

nice pose to start with. face is good. hair is too burry... don't mid the outline that much. as said the smudge tool is abused here.
sometimes is a good thing, but you can't have too much of a good thing right!

well keep on it.

Alloy,

If you look at the value you have for the eyes (about 100% black) and bkg you'll notice that they are really dark but it isn't to be found anywhere else in your painting. You can probably stand to give her a wider range of values, i.e. the cast shadow forming on the neck, it can get much darker where the head and the neck meet thus giving you a little more seperation in the process. the core shadow on her face could probably get darker too to help describe the form better. Last thing, I would also give the eyebrows more of a definite shape, it will give her more character.

Based on the suggestions so far, here is an update of sorts. I got rid of the evil smudgy things, tried to make more realistic hair and began the process of fixing her neck/shoulder proportions. I think I goofed up the angle of her face in the process of all this, but should be an easy fix. Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Mergatroid - thanks for your input on values, I'm also working on that a bit trying to make it more balanced.

the eyes are excellent, the nose could use more definition, the chin is somehow wrong on the right side. makes it look like the mouth has a different perspective than the face. actually, i think that rather the mouth is somehow strange, and the chin is good. try and tilt the mouth a bit to bring it into perspective with the face. Right now it's facing the cam too much. Youll need to change its shape in the process though, or else it will look worse.

The look is very 3d model clean like right now, i dont know if you wanna change that
if you do, start with the nose
it's too rounded for a real human, it needs a little platform
