Does anybody know of anywhere that has free Photoshop filters for download? On that note, what all goes into MAKING a filter?

i dunno about where to find filtrs, but i wouldnt recommend using them. if youre trying to achieve a certain effect, youre better off trying to paint that. youll learn much more out of it than just using filters.

You can download "IMesh" or "limewire" or "kazaa".
Maybe you know one of these programms...
Anyway, ahm..there you just have to tell the programm what you need and I am 100% sure you will find something useful.

Uhh.. a thread asking for free filters *AND* promoting crappy p2p file-sharing programs (wait a second, isn't that ILLEGAL!?) in the same thread? Oh goodness me.

While you're in this frame of mind, don't forget to use lots of lens flares!

Not everyone asking for filters is asking for a pirated copy of KPT...

I remember a rather large set of filters called (or made by?) the "Filter Factory". They didn't do as nifty things as the mighty commercial filters did, but a buddy of mine still managed to put them to very good use. Since my "artistic" interests in are mainly focussed on illustration, I don't use filters often (actually no at all, that is...), so I can't really say much about what you can and can't do with the free ones.
Quick search on Google turned out this:
http://www.freephotoshop.com/html/filter_factory.html

Now, if you're going to do design work, layout stuff and so on, filters can make life easier (sometimes). If you're trying to get better at painting, I can only agree with Zak: handicraft rulez!

I don't think that filters are crap or something.
If you can use them they are powerful.
I use motionblure and blur.

The only price you have to pay for using Photoshop Filters is the quality of your work.
You should be able to get by with what is already with the program. When you start venturing out into the seedy underbelly of CG and dabble in Filters that are out of the mainstream you run the risk of relying on thsoe exact "FREE" filters to hide the imperfections of your work.

maybe the best way to find filters is to try a search at google.com
but maybe the better solution is to not use filters Wink

I believe if you reread what he wrote and think for a second, he did inteed mean to write "NOT ILLEGAL". He does not appear to want to warez filters in my opinion.
