Hi

I'm thinking of buying a couple of books and I thought that I would ask what people thought about these books before ordering.
Are these any good? Are there any better out there dealing with the same content.

Bridgeman's complete guide to drawing from life
Ernest Watson- Creative perspective for Artists and Illustrators

And also I'm looking for a book dealing with value, edges, color, light and so on? any ideas

Well you've probably heard of this place where you can find the Loomis books. They are some of the best and Creative Illustration will help you with your value colour ect. questions.

The Bridgeman and Watson books are awesome too. I own them and I think everyone else should. I love Hogarth's work, as much as everyone else seems to have a problem with it... But of all his books, dynamic wrinkles and drapery may be the most useful because it deals with such a confusing subject. I just recently got the Vilppu Drawing Manual by Glenn Vilppu (used at Disney and Warner Bros. animation and taught at various animation schools in the states). Basically I think this guys approach to figure drawing is not only my favorite, but makes the most sense. His ideas can be used for all types of drawing though, and not just for animators either. Highly, highly recommended.

Bridgeman is highly recommended. He's a very structural artist so if you have a weakness in that area, he's really great. My only beef is that he's a little *too* structured. His women look like they're on steroids. They're like... chiselled.
