I'm using a 12x12 wacom tablet and I can hold it in my lap without too much trouble but I've found that I need to set it further away from me to use my best sketching posture and technique. Basically, if I hold it then I find I'm not able to sketch as well because I'm too close to it.
Anyway, I bought a $100 oil painting easel and found that it didn't work at all for holding the tablet.
I need something that will sit on the floor really. I figure I will have to build something custom to hold it unless someone knows of a type of easel or table I can buy for this?
Thanks for any suggestions! |

Why would you want to put a tablet on an easel? |

I thought I explained this but basically it is a 12x12 tablet which IS possible to hold and use in my lap but this gets tiring. Plus I am not able to get the best shoulder movement for sketching this way.
So, I need either a drafting table, inclined table, easel, or just something to hold it a an angle proper for drawing.
I'm thinking now of either building a drafting table or using a camera tripod as the base to hold the tablet.
Any suggestions welcome! |

If I had a need for something like that I would just go to Home Depot (hardware/lumber store of your choice) and build something like a mini drafting table.
I've seen a giant sized tablet that is positioned like an inclined drafting table but the price is quite hefty. Someone posted a pic of it here on the forums. |

A drafting table will be deep enough to handle a 19" monitor /AND/ a 12x12" tablet. I know because I have one:
They can get expensive, but sometimes you can find used ones for cheap, since all the companies that bought them for drafting are using Autocad now.
Drafting table = the best computer table you will ever buy. They are extremely sturdy, and you can use them for traditional art tasks as well. |

Yes.. I thought of something like that. I built a custom fixed-inclined-table with a slot on the back that slides onto my desk.
It works like a charm!
It is basically a BOARD on slant, with a stop (to hold to the table at bottom) and a NOTCH on the back to slide onto my desk.
I also use a cheap cloth glove. Go get one if you dont have one or use a trashbag. It makes it a lot easier to make clean lines! |

I've got the perfect spot for you to rest your tablet, Light:
Give 'em a little rub while you're down there, they're getting cold. Kthanksbye. Idiot. |

shit man, I know light can be an asshole, but don't start wreaking other peoples threads because of it.
(and yes, i'm aware this problably won't help, but it needs to be said)
what I've done is to get one of these compact sort of keyboards and have it hang off my desk a bit, and then have the wacom proped up on the part above the keyboard tray (it slides out) its not wonderful, but it works for me.
Probably not the idea your looking for though. |

Hey Light... if I understand you correctly, you may need something like this. It's a Ravenna Table Top Easel and it can be had from Dick Blick for like $50. I have one for charcoal/pencil sketching, and it's quite nice. Very lightweight and portable. I use it to hold my 25" drawing board up, but I don't see why you couldn't stick a 1212 Intuos on there. You could adjust to any angle, put it on the floor, table edge, etc. Click the image to go directly to Dick's and buy one

tayete: one felt like it was going bad, so I bought a second, but the tablet didn't seem to like the new pen. Fortunately the new one came with a bunch of extra nibs, and sticking one of those in the old pen seemed to fix it. So I've got two stylii.
You know, if you're rich, you can actually buy as many as you want and assign them different tools and the tablet will theoretically recognize all of them. I think mine just whigs out because it's a very old pad (ArtZ II). _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Light,
I built a taletop easel/slant with black foam core. The 3 edges are fused with a generous amount of hot glue. Surprisingly, it hasn't fallen apart after 3 years of use.
