With the complete lack of detail as to how you went about your endavour, the only way we could help you would be to list all possible reasons ... that could well fill a whole book ... And I can't be bothered to do that ...
So you're gonna have to list up the details of your process first buddy. |

Where'd you try it? Which forum?
Are you linking to a website that contains the image? or from your hardrive, because it will only work if the image is already online.
Geocities does not work, same as angelfire and a few others who have restricted 'hotlinking' which is when one webpage (like this forum) downloads an image from another webpage and uses it. Because ppl could be just using Geocities to host images, whereas they want you to actually make a page there. So they disable hotlinking to discourage abuse. There is some way around it though, do a search about it. The search button is at the top right of this page.
Hope that helps. |

The trick to geocities is to rename your file (say, more_tedious_unoriginal_anime.jpg to a text file: more_tedious_unoriginal_anime.txt) and link it as you would a JPEG.
Even if you do get a pic working through Geocities or Angelfire, it only takes 5 people to view before you've gone over their precious bandwith limit. |

I was linking to an image that is on my website. I'm not using Geocities, but am using Dreamhost. I pasted in the link and got an empty box instead of my image. I'm sure I'm missing steps... |

OK, knowing a little bit more about your approach now than previously, I can now say that images from your site loads fine on this board. For how long, who can tell, that depends on your artworks popularity I guess, or how nice hosting service you've got.
So that leaves suspicion about whether your use of UBB code is correct or not.
Time to go to school ...
"Using HTML and/or UBB Code
You may be able to use HTML and/or UBB Code in your posts, if your administrators and moderators have those options turned on for each forum. Some forums may have either HTML or UBB Code turned off, or both turned off. Only your message board's leaders can set this. Every time you post a new note, you will be told whether UBB Code and/or HTML is enabled for that particular forum. If HTML is on, you may use any HTML tags, but please be very careful that you use proper HTML syntax. If you do not, your moderator or administrator may have to edit your post. UBB Code is similar to HTML, but offers just a few basic functions, such as hyperlinking, image display, bolding and italicizing. Complete details on UBB Code are listed here."
Go check it out. |
