Remember how this filter (and many others like Clouds and EyeCandy fire) attracted you when you open Photoshop for the first time!

Wouldn't it be funny if someone made an obscene finger gesture with these lens flares? |

I guess the thing is, lens flare from photoshop filters looks, well, photoshopped.
I think lens flare could work if painted in by hand to make sure it fits into the scene, but that would defeat the purpose of having a filter in the first place. |

wait a damn minute here, for the lense flare to be hip again....doesn't that mean it would have had to have been hip once...and I dont think that EVER happened. |

the problem with photoshop's lens flare is that it gives round light rings instead of hexagonal like a real camera does... |

I thought it was pretty hip back when I used to draw everything with a mouse on a 486Dx2 66Mhz. Damn I waited for ages when filters had to be rendered. |

1993 - original done in CorelDraw IV and then passed through Photoshop (3 I think) to add the lens flare...

Actually, that depends on the camera, better lenses have more aperture blades which give round out-of-focus highlights and flare artifacts
Lens flares can actually be useful for adding highlights to very bright objects, as long as it's done carefully...
And obviously they are also very useful for simulating a lens that's pointing towards a bright light source |

It's basically the lens flare which takes away from the picture, only because they are distracting or just don't fit. And a lot of newbies get delighted with this filter and make their entire pictures out of them. Also, the lens flare just don't really fit the painting style, it seems "homogenized" if you will, and brings down the picture's end appearance. I know, cause that's what I used to do years ago. |

hence the "looks fine when used correctly"
if you do it right, it looks fine. if you do it wrong, it doesn't there is a right and wrong to this here. |

Interestingly enough I got into computers, and Lightwave 3D, to use them as a money maker. I had read quite extensively on the field, and already knew to avoid excessive lens flare usage. |

first off ballistic i am still trying to catch my Breath hahaah
i think illl make that my desktop for at least a day or 2.
speaking of lense flares i have a story for ya. I was sitting in the rainbow bar and grill on sunset with a bunch of people from the computer gaming industry and the subject of lense flares came up. kep in mind this is a mix of some of the main players from allot of big game companies.
anyway some were talking about the lense flares and how real they make first person shooters!.
when out of the blue Levelord jumps in with a strait out remark. " why do people think flares look real or add realism when you only get them when you look through a camera Lense?
I used flares when i was a newbee i would say my first year using photoshop. i think all newbees do. |

If your are talking about the middle of his a** it's rather the 'opposite' of a lens flare - I guess. |
