Um.. Just roll some newsprint into a cone and tape the back tip with drafting tape to keep it in place.

Heh... I use to just put the paper around my finger and rub things to blend. And then use a kneadable eraser to clean up any mess.

It's been a while since I've done work in graphite, but when I needed to blend something, I used toilet paper or cheap tissues -- the cheapest 1-ply paper I could find (no lotion, etc.). I found it worked better for me than stubs. I could blend large areas with a handful of paper or wad it tightly for more precision. It gave me less directional effects and paper damage than stubs, too.

I'm pretty sure a tortilla is just masa meal, salt and water flattened out and grilled in a dry sautee pan. If that doesn't work try cross-hatching.

Isn't it actually tortillon?

anyways.. there really isn't a good way to make a homemade one. And even if there was, I doubt we could convey in text for you anything different than "grab a piece of something paper-like and roll it in a cone" I would suggest either buying some, or use shit-paper and your fingers like the others said.

you might want to give this site a shot...there are all sorts of cool tips and tricks for drawings portraits and one of the little lessons there is on making your own tortillions....anyway, here it is, goodluck!

Hey, the authentique Spanish tortilla is made this way:

Cut 4 potatoes in thin slices. Fry them with low fire and a lot of olive oil. In the meanwhile, beat 4 eggs with some salt. Take the potatoes from the pan, and pour them into the beaten eggs. Stir it all together well for some minutes. Pour again the mixture in the pan with just a thin screen of oil, and cover it. Wait 5 minutes at high fire, then turn the tortilla to make the other side. Wait another five minutes, and there you are!!! The authentique Spanish tortilla of potatoes (nothing to do with the tortillas the Latinamerican inherited from us -Spain- some centuries ago).
You can serve it as it is, covered with mayonaisse, or cutten in triangles over slices of french bread.
Try it!
