I am currently on a trip with my friends. We are going to diffent colleges in california and touring them. Naturally I, being the artist of the group, wanted to see the academy of art since we where going that way. From what I have seen, I think i have fallen in love with the school. The coulseler gave me alot of insite, however i wanted to know if anyone here has ever attended the school. What did you think of the school? Anything to watch out for? Anything to consider before applying? I plan on either majoring in Illustration or 3D Animation. I only had so much time at the campus before I had to leave, so I would like your opinion of the school.
Thanks
PS. Right now im posting from the UC Davis Library. |

When I took a tour there in 97 I wasn't impressed. Campus all over the city, not enough computer lab time, et cetera.
Depending on how much determination you have already, you might be best off just taking fine art/illustration classes at a less expensive university or community college and simultaneously teaching yourself the digital stuff at home. |

Thanks for the comments
I am thinking about getting a degree in 3d animation. I didn’t get much time so I couldn't take a tour. However, i haven’t really heard anything bad about this school. They have there own transit system now so it is easy to get from department to department (which i think is cool and makes up for the fact that the campus is spread everywhere).
I also love the fact that companies (like pixar, Disney, EA, DreamWorks and many various design and VFX houses) scout and hire graduates from the college. Plus the collaborative projects are a great way to get experience. Did you know that parts of the matrix where done at the academy of art?
Well i have babbled on long enough. I would like some comments from people that have attended the academy. |
