A wonderfull new book has just come out called 'The Invisible Art - The Legends of Movie Matte Painting'. It's a 300 page hardcover telling the story of movie matte painting from the very early beginning all the way up to current day. Filled with 375 colour illustrations it's a must-have.
It's a tad pricey (45 quid here in the UK), but it's well worth every penny.

There are wonderfull works from greats such as Peter Ellenshaw, Ralph McQuarrie, Rocco Gioffre, Yusei Uesugi, etc. Oh and it even comes with a CD-Rom containing clips of shots of various matte paintings featured in the book.

I'm dribbling just at the thought of it.

It might even be better than my new West Wing Script Book that I finally got after 6 months of waiting.

My local Borders says they ordered 4 copies in July, although it wasn't due to be published until August. So I'll probably get it November.

Hmm.. strange. I bought my copy at the Cinema Store here in London, they said it had been out a week or so. Could it be that for once we got something before the USA? Hallelujah
