I just picked up a new sony trinitron 19' monitor and I have noticed a pair of very very faint single lines on the top quarter and bottom quarter going horizontal on my screen.
They are each a single line but they are so faint that I can only notice them...well I can still notice them. I thought I was going crazy until I was at my school today and noticed the same thing on all of the view sonic monitors as well.
WHAT GIVES!!

The screen of a Trinitron (and DiamondTron) tube is not made up of dots but of vertical strips -- unbroken, like strips of phosphor. The mask - the solid part that prevents the beams from crossing - takes up less room than with the earlier technology. This makes the images much brighter and sharper. (unlike cheaper shadow mask screens)
The only trouble is that the grill consists of thousands of very fine filaments and has to be held firmly in place. So there are two horizontal damper wires, designed to absorb shocks and expansion when the materials heat up. This produces two dark lines that can be seen on screen against a light background.
In other words, it's normal, it's present in all Trinitron and DiamondTron screens ...

It's even in the instructions of the monitor ... hehe ... no - I don't read instructions either! ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

... and it doesn't bother me at all
I have the 21 incher, and sometimes I actually use the damper wires (which is a tradeoff for a brighter image, IIRC) actively for on-screen measurement. I think most people start "filtering" them away after awhile (as did I), so give it a try.
Oh, and congrats ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Shit, I had to actually look for mine just now to remember they were there. I got so used to seeing them, I stopped seeing them ![](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

Ditto. It seems a big deal when you first get it, but after a while you will never see them. |

I have a sony 17" trinitron... in the beginning I also noticed thoose lines, but as the others say, you will get used to them and not see them. Btw. if you press the "menu" button on your moniter and access the help screen, there is also somekinda explanation on why thoose lines are there... |
