Not flaming. but yeat its the wrong section of this forum to post such a topic.
Now, if you had posted a few of your own tattoo designs and said
"TATOO THREAD: POST YOUR OWN TATOOS ... im very interested in tattoss just wanted to see what others have done etc etc etc"
if you had said something like that plus your own posted tatoo works then it would have been so much better.... |

Hmm, this topic came at a good time.
Me and couple of friends of mine have pondered upon tattoos alot since i think especially in europe the trend of getting a tattoo has gone really mainstream (not that there's anything bad in it) and I think especially the tribal designs.
For me and my friends, tattoo would have to be something really really unique that would remind us of a situation or a short period of time in our lives. For example, I've done all sorts of graphics for years and started with 3D graphics so I'd imagine if I'd ever take a tattoo, it'd be some 3D symbol or something since it obviously has been an influencing part of my life.
But what I don't get is the tattoo-for-fun-and-it-looks-cool -stuff. For example, the tribal tattoos. Everyone has one. They all look the same. It's weird no one has ever come up with a slightly altered version of the pointy spikes and curves -thing (and I'm not dissing AdezJ's drawings, on their own right they look cool). I can understand someone having a tribal tattoo for a year or so, but imagine living with one for tens of years. It'll be cool looking as a grandma when you got a tribal tattoo sticking in your neck :-)
So what's your POV on this? Is my idea about what a tattoo should represent a bit oldskool and narrow for today's world? The main point is that it'll be permanent (the removals to my knowledge don't always work and can have some hazards) and keeping this in mind I've formed my opinion.
...
Aaaand one of my friends just wanted me to design a tattoo for him. Angel, sword in hand, attacking, beautiful etc etc :-) |

for your definitive guide to all that is body modification check out www.bmezine.com there is some pretty advanced stuff there so look out.
I have been contemplating getting a tattoo for about 2 years now but never have money for something like that. I would personally get the words of the 3 traits that I believe are most important to me either in Japanese Kanji or some ancient language.
The fact is that people have different tastes. Teenage girls seem to love having fairy's and butterfly's on them. They are the ones keeping the tattoo parlors in business so I don't really care. I can see incorporating a tribal design into your tattoo or even a butterfly but I don't think they really stand well alone.
And the kanji lettering is getting abit cliche too but its not really about what is cool, its about what it means to you. |
