Hiya all!
Anyway, I always wondered if any art programs had chinese paintbrush styles or ricepaper characteristics. My first exposure to painting was with a bamboo brush and rice paper, hehe, not that I'm any good at it.
I've seen the Sumi-e filter in Photoshop but it *kinda* isn't the same, heh.
Thx lots! |

Painter 7 can do that. I downloaded a sumi brush over at In Depth Discussions forum before they crashed. If you've got a copy of Painter and are interested in the brush, you can email me.

Hi,
You'll find three Chinese painting brushes by Paulo Roberto Purim in the In Depth Discussions Painter Can forum thread named "Sumi Brush for Painter 6". Here's the link to that thread:
http://www.critical-depth.com/cgi-bin/idd/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=210
Paulo's brushes are for Painter 7. They're .XML files and two of them are Captured Dab brushes so there are two matching file name .JPG files as well.
You'll find the links to Paulo's .XML and .JPG brush files in the third message. Later in the thread, he gives the RGB values he used in his demo images (which, unfortunately, aren't displaying anymore).
In another thread named "New Chinese Brushes!", Paulo shared two more of his Chinese painting brushes. Here's the link to that thread:
http://www.critical-depth.com/cgi-bin/idd/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=223
Again, unfortunately, Paulo's demo images are no longer displaying but there are a couple of other members' images done using these brushes.
I'd suggest reading both of these threads as they probably contain some tips for using the brushes. In the second thread, Paulo shares his Brush Tracking settings that seem to make all the difference in how the brush works.. at least on his system, and on mine as well.
Have fun! |
