Hi i'm a noob here.
well, I'm having a problem making clouds wiht painter 7. The type of clouds i want are a mix between hazy and cumulus (puffy)at night. I've been looking at a lot of refernce pica and just can't get the right effect i want with the just add water tool. I need help aargh!!! |

hei, mayby if use use some clody picture first as a downpainting, and draw over it, you should get some tips out of it
and after you have studied it that way, you can do them without a problem |

a quick dirty way is to apply flats of color, so you have some whites and grays for the shadow.. think of the clouds in 3D very important... put the color with the oil bursh for example
then use the Plaet Knife variant 'dry brush' or something which is similar to photoshop smudge tool but more painterly (i.e. BETTER). Use the dry brush around the clouds , well see for yourself, applying quick line motions can make motion blkur effects, applying little circles can make smoke like.. for your clouds, dont overuse it! in some areas its better to have a rough transition from the cloud light and dark parts
anyways after all that said the coulds shouldnt be white and gray they should be some very desaturated colour close to white and grey..depends on the sun and the sky etc
