Hiya, I'm a little leary of posting this seeing as how similar threads have been uber flamed in the past (rightfully I think, so I'm going to hope this one isn't the same).
Anyway, I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there who would be interested in helping out with an Independant Game Development "company" (for lack of a better term).
I want to emphasize this is a FOR FUN, not for pay type thing. I didn't start the project either, but I find it fun and I enjoy the chances to talk to and work with others towards a common goal.
The "company" isn't making any money whatsoever and it won't in the forseeable future.
Anyway, now that all that is clear (I hope). The game is going to be a 3D online Role-playing game. Right now we're working on the story and intial concepts. Because of that we're looking for people with DRAWING skills. Digital or traditional is fine, we aren't picky when it comes to voluntary help. While having 3D ability would be nice, we aren't planning on getting into any serious 3D development until next year.
So to sum up. This is for fun, not-pay, nor is the "company" making any money. If you want to help, we'd love to hear from you and you can get more info by emailing me at [email protected] .
PS. We're aiming for a quasi-anime/realistic feel to the game. (ie we're not exactly sure about the style yet, so anyone decided to help out would get some input =P )
Also any further questions can be asked here. *crosses fingers thread won't be flamed too badly*
Thanks |

most of the similar threads are being flamed because the games the people are doing are rip-offs of some commercial game. and that is bound to get the people working for it into legal problems if the original company notices the project. and none of the artists want that. actually, that is a thing I would like to ask... Is the idea entirely yours (your group's), or is it going to be something like "unofficial final fantasy 100"? If it is entirely your idea, not some "unofficial some-commercial-game" I'd be interested... If accepted ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

It's our idea, definatly not an "unofficial remake" or any other stype of rip off. In fact right now developing a strong original story and main characters is what we're working on the most. As that progresses we'll be passing into the concept art stage and that's why we're looking for more artists with both skill and creativity
Anyway, after looking at your site I think you'd probably fit right in with the group so drop me a line and I'll fill you in on more details and stuff.

can you give us a brief plot description? It doesnt have to be anything too in depth (i dont want people to steal your idea). I just want to know a bit more about it |

Well, like I mentioned earlier, we're still developing the story. But here's a one liner that defines teh basic concept behind the game.
"Humanity is forced to evolve using the genes of animals in order to stand against the raging horde of machine tormentors bent on their utter destruction."
We already have things figured out more than just that, and it's a little less flat sounding. But hopefully that enough to get the general idea. |

Cool. I like the sound of it. I would like to help too. I am a designer, not much of an illustrator... So I can do things like photoshop manip, designs, GUI design and general art help.
I'm offering some help because I want to try and get involved in a gaming project for my portfolio reasons and of course for the love of gaming aswell!
Can I help in any way? I love the sound of the concept so far. |

Wow, it sounds like you guys are taking on a *huge* task. I hope that you realize the enormous amount of work it will take to make what you're talking about. There's a lot of help out there, though. Make sure that you check around to make sure that you're not re-inventing the wheel. There are a lot of free graphics, graphics engines, and development tools out there. A good place to start looking is www.WorldForge.org, there is a ton of stuff to wade through to get what you want, but you could save yourself a great deal of time in the long run.
While I'm on the subject of sharing, what license are you guys going to use? I hope that if you'll be using the gaming community's tools and art that you'll share your work as well. There are licenses out there that allow you to share your work and still sell it later, if you wish. Good luck, and let us know how it's all going. :-)

You know, it's kind of funny how things work out. As it turns out one of the other impending aspects of the initial design that we're looking at closely right now happens to be the GUI design. So I'd say you'd be MORE than welcome to lend any insights you have.
Anyway, send if that sounds cool drop me an email at the addy up in the first message =) |
