Nova,

If you read this, can you get an answer out of Dhab for us? Just ask him what his feelings are regarding the forum at this point. If he has no inetensions to be involved at all, maybe he should announce that and get it over with? Maybe even pass on the forum to someone else to maintain, so the issues of adding admins/banning..etc could be addressed without bothering him? We all know he keeps saying he as no time, but none of us believe it. 5 minutes to post an announcement is not that hard. Many of us have worked/is working in games too, so we know how busy it could get, but not THAT busy.

Lunatique,

i'll see what i can do it seems to me like a combination of apathy and denial. after all, this place has changed quite a bit and isn't as pretty to look at as it used to be.

when i first visited this place( 2000?) i looked at the finished gallery section and there was not only alot of great stuff but alot of great comments too, people where doing overpaints and usefull comments). And now ? people tend to post in random musings/digital art discussion but not commenting in art sections. especialy work in progress. I think alot of artist only dump their art here but really care about some other forums (do i smell poo ? )

All i just want to say is that the greatness of pleace like this is build on community so if someone is saying that sijun is getting ugly he is saying this about him self !

I'm kinda guilty of not having posted anything for I'd say 6 months. My excuse being that I'm terribly busy (and not even at the homebase) right now.

Additionally, when posting from work, I'm usually too involved in other things that doesn't allow me to have a clear head for crits quite often. That's why I'm more drawn to random musings and little flame wars here and there.

But I'll try to make an effort again when I'm home again.

Still think it's my favourite art forum. There are still a lot of excellent people around. And from my observations: only a few forums stay 'fresh' - most of them have a lifespan and then die. Sijun is long out of it's crazy teenage years and will probably become a surly senior citizen in the not so distant future ... but that's how it works.

i'm just being honest

what i'm tryna say is that it doesn't seem as welcoming for dhabih to come here as it used to be.. if you catch my drift. he asks me sometimes with kinda a grimace 'so how's the forum doing?'.

yeah, Loki.. i still visit here just about daily. sad, huh?

Ha ... the forum is Dhabih's mutant stepchild, locked in the basement, to be forgotten ...

It'd be nice if he could at least give the mods more power - Sumaleth at least.

Oh well ... anyone remember "Draw Club"? Those where the days when Dhabih still loved us ... sniff.

And yes, I'm still here too. Feels too much like home now to leave ...

What will we do if this place ever dies? We need a contingency plan...

It's a pity Dhab doesn't still visit. At least occaisionally. I can't see a reason not to! I'd really love to know why he doesn't at least let Mods have banning powers. I mean why not? Nothing else here seems to bother him enough to phase him, so there is no excuse like "I don't want to give just anybody those powers".

But maybe he is just scared of the kind of criticism like this..

Well, Nova, I expected you to say that about Dhab.

Well, if apathy is the case, why not just hand the forum over to someone else and be free of it all, instead of having it in the back of his mind nagging?

The honest truth is, this forum had gone to shit in the past BECAUSE of his apathy and lack of action when we needed it the most. Performing damage repair AFTER the fact is not the way to go.

I'll forever be grateful to him for having started this. This is the grand daddy of them all, and finding this place means more to me than I can say in a few sentences.

It's time for Dhabih to force his apathy aside for a bit and decide what he wants to do. You don't just run away from THOUSANDS of people like that, especially when it makes it hard for us to maintain a healthy enviroment(lack of power for mods, and not enough mods). It's very irresponsible.

At the VERY least, he needs to just add a few more mods. He doesn't even need to choose one. The forum members can vote for them and then email Dhabih the results.

I just felt like I wanted to make a quick post before I start working...

I don't understand why Dhabih doesn't care. The forum is still a very well known community, and I don't see a reason to stop caring without handing over the responsibility to someone who does.
Although I don't think it's about Dhabih not being willing to give moderators more power, it's just that he doesn't care. Does he even draw stuff today?

Why would he be scared of looking at the forums? From my point of view, being member #83, I think the spirit of the forums is still here.

And I do agree with Mr Luna, nobody is so busy he can't post one single post telling us what's happening. I remember when when things were bad, but things have changed.

Bit "empty" post from me, but who cares?

Loki, Nova - Those were the days eh? ...

Don't go hassling Dhab, the place is fine.

It takes 30 secs to write a post to appease a whinging forum.

It takes 1 second to whip out a network cable and put a whinging forum out for good.

Well I guess if he doesn't want to bother with the forums anymore that's enitrely his decision... I mean, it can be a huge timewaster at times. I've spent more time here than I should sometimes when I have more important things to do. And I can see why it might be way too stressful, especially if you're the one everyone looks to to fix whatever problems come up. It's a lot of work and a lot of pressure. But I do think that if he doesn't want to shoulder that anymore, he should definitely pass the torch rather than let us try to maintain the place without having the means to do so.

I think we should all email Dhabih and thank him for giving us this place, without asking for anything.. but just thank him pure and simple.

I think that's a great idea Awe, but 7000 e-mails might seem like more of an attack than a gesture of appreciation.

Well I might as well get my two cents in... I'm new here everyone can clearly see that with my member #. But I came here after seeing sijun.com's gallery. The whole painting technique is something I have been dying to llearn how to do. I'm amazed with it all. I wished I had gotten an earlier start, but I just really hope this place stays up and running. I showed my friends the artwork you fellas create and there all amazed.... I come from a small town in maine along the coast and I just see this place being as good of an opportunity for me to learn as in a classroom. You guys are great and can really create some amazing artwork. Well I gotta go now, but thanks for everything so far. (Prays this place stays up and running)

my 2 cents as well... I'm generally pretty brief... not a gushy articulate sort'a guy... but I also have found great support, information and learning from this forum. I visit and post to a number of forums, but this one does seem to be my anchor point... curiously it may be our founder's hands-off attitude that gives it its unique spin...

Ceenda's right.

And besides. I think it would be more appropriate for Dhabih to sell the forum rather than just "hand it over".

Hi. I'm no artist, but I've a been a reader for a long time because I love art. I still like this place a lot. Sure it has changed, mainly in the comments and critics. But the art is still great.

Hey all.. just an "old school" member droppin by. Finally decided to read General Discussion as the Final Copy forum seems to be the only thing holding my interest as of late.

I can relate to what nova was saying about Dhab not wanting to come here. This place got too fluttered with.. hmm.. "half-wits" (not going to name names) and made it unpleasant to continue being a regular at. I still talk to those whom I developed a relationship with.. but other than that, I seldomly stop by... and when I do, it's usually to post a picture then take off for a couple more months. Heh.

Other than that... would like to say hey to nova and Loki... I remember you guys, not too sure if you remember me.

Cheers fella's - keep the ink on the paper, k?

ok,i come here for 2 Years, i took this nick a few months because i've lost the other (even i forgot the nick hehe)
This year wasn't very great, last year there was Sijun in super activity, also Fgfx (ok it's most a delirium but cool ) so now it's more quiet (in case of good sharing, great ambiance etc...)
There's too young pepeolz without respect here ...in fact anywhere on the net
It'sn't a reason to give up, i know but whitout rules, mods, the community can't survive!

it's better that Dhab lets this forum to another guy or then we make an election.

Anyway i'm still here again longtime :-)

as u can probably see :P

ive watched this forum become what it is today.. well yer

same thing happens in all large communities
ie. devart which has now lost control :\

it does seem no one really cares about anyone else anymore... people want comments on their work, yet could not be stuffed commenting on other peoples...

bad yes..

me bad for not posting.. yes
