there's both AMD ans Pentiums (btw: which one is best?)
DFI Socket478 motherboard
(PC133, 4XAGP, ATA100)
Original 1024MB DDR-RAM
IBM 120GXP 80GB 7200rpm HD
Nvidia GeForce3 Ti200 128MB DDR AGP
Sony 3,5" Floppy
WT 300W Miditower ATX
19" TVM 9GLr 1600x1200 0.25dot
Labtec Internet Tastatur
32/10/40 cd-writer Burnproff
SoundBlaster Live Player 5.1 soundcard
Altec Lancing ACS33 hjtalere
Xtreme Mouse Scroll PS/2
I've got my sweet Wacom Intuos2 - but Photoshop is a little slow on my 450 Mhz P3, 128 MB ram... I really need a new one! Help me!
And oh, I don't want it it to be like a workstation strictly for photoshop and 3d stuff - I also want to play the new games! ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

That setup should be fine, though you'll only be able to run an Intel on that motherboard, not an AMD (AMDs are socket A). AMDs are better for 3D stuff, but for 2D it doesn't really matter.
Your videocard will do well in games, but it probably won't have amazing 2D image quality. You might want to look into the new Matrox Parhelia (sp?) that's coming out. |

Also, the 300W PSU is possibly worth reconsidering. Depends what you want to do really, but I'd consider a 400W Enermax one as USB is quite power hungry. |

I see soooooooo much problem with your setup.
IBM 120GXP 80GB 7200rpm HD
Let me requote what i wrote on a similar thread
"Have you been living under the ground for the past 1905432905902902 years or something. 90% Percent of IBM hard drive will crash within the first year!!! i hang out at the HardOCP forum and i know. DO NOT EVER BUY AN IBM HARD DRIVE. My six years old Fujitsu HD is still working as good as new. Anyway, next time u buy a HD, should go with maxtor, seagate....anything except for IBM.
I love you.
LUNATIQUE, I"M WHORING MY SELF JUST TO MAKE YOU JEALOUS. HAHAHAHAHA> WHORE!!!!!!"
That thread is here http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=003339 check out what others have to say about the IBM HD too.
Nvidia GeForce3 Ti200 128MB DDR AGP
Ok, why the did you go with this? Do you think that the card's faster cause it gots 128 DDR memory? WRONG, its even SLOWER. Go with GeForceTi4200, its not expensive and not much different from the much more expensive 4600 version. Also, Ati Radeon 8500 is good too, as fast as the Ti4200 for about $100 american.
19" TVM 9GLr 1600x1200 0.25dot
WHO IS TVM? Don't ever buy a monitor with a unknown brand, chances are, the monitor imagine quality will go straight to the toilet after a year or so. Choose Sony, Samsung, Mitsubishi or Viewsonic.....etc instead

Thanx a mill for pointing out the probs with this setup - mind though it's a standard setup - I haven't decided all the hardware - but I can ask them to change the HD and the graphics card. And - yeah - I know getting a graphics card with the biggest amount of ram isn't always a nice thing - I remember the motherboard problems when the 1st 64 MB geforce cards came out. But I think I'll go for a geforce (since I'm serious in my work with art, but not that serious - know what I mean? eh? eh? eh?)
I was thinking about just getting the monitor that comes with - and then buy an ace later (so I could use the best for image the other for tools - u know dual monitor setup). |

Yeah, thats a highend samsung model. But if you're rich, get a Sony and it will stay bright and vibriant forever!
0.24 is pretty good. The average is 0.25-27. 0.20 would be a bit overkill, you dont need it, graphics designer wont need it, its good for AUTOCAD designer i guess.
Oh, here's a thread about the IBM drive, almost 700 replied with angry msg about IBM drive crashes. http://www.tech-report.com/news_reply.x/2799 |

Dr. Bang: I've 4 IBM HD's and none has crahed yet.. the oldest is bought in 1997 and second oldest one year after that, the newest is 6 months old and the second newest 1,5 years... maybe I'm just lucky ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Consider the Maxtor 80gb, it's actually a Quantum HD till they got bought up. I snagged one up for $172 cnd, sweet deal! Minimal noise too. Leaving my old fujitsu in the dust, too noisey to bother setting it up. |

k. I heard that the older IMB deskstars crashratio was like 2/3 but the new ones 120GXP is like 1/100?
I can understand people who have bought IBM once and got shit won't buy their stuff anymore.... but IBM must be intelligent enough (hence the name :P ) to do it better - so wouldn't it make sense that their HDs have improved? |

Never, EVER trust anecdotal evidence about hard disk reliability, because it is almost always statistically insignificant.
Sometimes a specific model will be bad, but never an entire brand, because all of the hard disk manufacturers share parts and assembly facilities. When you buy a Maxtor, you could be getting the exact same drive as one that's got an IBM sticker on it two shelves over. Same goes for CDROM drives . . . not many companies actually make the mechanisms inside, but plenty of people stick their logos on the outside and sell for a big margin.
Think about it: if a hard disk works as expected, do you go around to every message board you can find and tell everybody that its working fine? Of course not! The only opinions you read are going to be from people who have had part failures, and that's hardly a fair reprentation of the overall quality of a product. |

Don't trust any HDDs!
Burn Data-CDs regularly!
Soon, you'll be pile up in CDs
may be then you can invest in a DVD burner
