Does anyone have the overlay template for the beautiful face. We were talking about this quite a while back. The one where you lay it over a face to see if it lines up with the facial gride.

Thanks for the links.
I believe that the theory is probably true, but it's ironic that this template for "beautiful" faces is kinda... scary looking ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Don't be fooled by the junk science on that website. If you want basic beauty images to draw from, the simple act of finding a picture you like in a fashion magazine would be a better reference point than those scary-looking overlapping triangles.
In his flawed work, it seems as though that guy is just looking for a face that has average proportions for a 18-24 year old in good health, who is not aged, overweight, or disfigured in any way. Those generalized goals might make someone "a 7" or "an 8" at best. To find "a 10" there has to be something a little more special about a person, a beauty cue or cuteness cue or gender cue that goes a little better than just that mask's average proportions.
He also choose not to show many of the ethnic differences that exist in the real world. For example, some african people have beautiful, sexy faces even if their noses are wider than that mask's, so to gloss over that issue he chose an african model for his example that had a narrow "western-approved" nose, the kind that plastic surgeons often try to sell to black customers. (The results, in cases like Michael Jackson's, can be really frightening and unnatural if they go too far towards that ideal triangle shape!)
A third thing I noticed was that under "Future Research" > "The Architype in 3D" he shows a pirated, unauthorized copy of a 3D head that I built a few years ago, from: http://3drender.com/jbirn/ea/HeadModel.html He apparently downloaded my wireframe image and now displays on his site without my permission, without mentioning that I did not follow his "mask" protocol in its design and that it has nothing to do with his research.
Anyway, that guy is not only a bad scientist, he doesn't even seem to have the eye or perception of a good artist, which should be requirement #1 before we take his advice or use his template for any kind of standard of beauty.

That site doesn't have enough scientific data to convince me that everyone is most attracted to the same set of proportions.
I think it's more likely that different people (particularly different races) have different ideals, although we can make the logical assumption that many people from other races are not deformed. |

Funny I wasn't expecting a discussion about this, just wanted the pic. My Father and I were watching the show and thought it would be funny to see our faces under the scope. Truely, it cannot really break down beauty. On the show they selected a young model who fit the mask, in which I did not find attractive at all. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The only thing it might do is find people with attractive proportions, nothing else.
