hi.. i was just wondering how to achieve smooth gradations with the paint brush in photoshop.. i hear a lot of people say that it's better to use the paintbrush than the airbrush in order to achieve a cleaner, crisper image.. however, when i use the paintbrush it just seems really tedious to get a smooth gradation between highlight and shadow - everything looks very rough and unfinished... im sure the fact that im working with a mouse doesn't help either, but im just trying to get familiar with the digital medium at this stage of the game... anyways, any comments or tips would be appreciated..

i like working with the paintbrush, but i understand what you mean. it can be a real pain to use sometimes. i normally work at an opacity of 30 percent. these let me overlay the colours easily. and you can also bring in different colours to give the image a richer feel. i normally end up smudging the whole lot, but in time youll get better and you wont need to.i recon you should use all the tools at your disposal, bacuse thats what they are here for arent they? |
