Hi , Im quite new around here ...
Theres a question that got trough my mind looking at some of you guy's (amazing*) work , and then hear some guys cant find a job ... And Ill admit this scares me a bit ... Im only beggining in the art domain slowly , and quite personaly when I look to those finished works it has the same effect as getting hit on the head with a hammer ...
God damn I mean Ill have to beat this and yet still Ill have problems finding a job ?
Im ending High school this year , going to college in computer+art related stuff ... Id like to at least get somekind of work when I come out
Is it hard finding a job in this domain ?
I am 16 , nearly 17 , and Im starting slowly , what should be my reaction to that kinda progress
Anyway , thanks for answering this , I really got some fears for my future here :x

I can't really answer this, but try to do a search on the topic, because there has been a substantial amount of good threads on this.

Well, even though a lot of people post about looking for jobs, that doesn't necessarily mean they haven't GOT a job currently. A lot of people here do freelance work, and are thus ALWAYS looking for new contracts.
I posted a thread about children's illustration jobs the other day, for example...but I can't even THINK about applying for anything for several months. I'm just doing some early homework...and I suspect that's what a lot of other people are doing too.
Even when you've already got work, it never hurts to sniff around for more. |

Socar... very true...
Another approach and one that I've used for a large part of my life is to get a job in another field that will help support the tools that you need for your "real" job, your artwork. I'd say this approach is a good one for people who's interest in art is to make personal or "fine art", essentially stuff that will probably only sell to art collectors.
For example, I spent 12 years producing very personal musique concrete, aka sound poetry using sound effects, synthesizers and whatver else I could find that made sound for recording. During that time I made my living freelancing as a location sound engineer in the film business, which not only paid for my tools (professional tape recorders are expensive) but also placed me in many corners of the planet to collect sound effects - my palette. So, my job not only supported my family, it also supported my passion for artwork -- in that case audio artwork.

you can get a job with or without artistc skill.
Try your local grocery store or fast food restaurant. They are always looking for dishwashers and help stocking shelves. |

yea, DickCheese... that's limburger, right (sp, hahahah)
I was thinking about thinking a bit more creatively if the "other" job route seems a useful way... for example, it doesn't even take much thought to know that designing websites is a good way to support digital tools... |
