Ask the students, and alumni. I chose Ringling, for illustration. I want to do concept work for film, someday, when I'm old. I start there in the Fall, find out as much info as you can before you make a decision. |

Hey,
I just got done emailing an alumni, asked them about the programs and such.
I want to do the same thing: concept work for films, but also for games.
Did you tour the school? Did you like it? I'm so scared about moving away from home, it's 1000 miles away! But at least I have relatives an hour away from there.
So, if anyone has info, what do you guys think? Even if it's about the dorm rooms, campus's,etc. I don't care much about the partying part of it (why do people go to college to party?!)... i just care about the art training. |

I didn't tour the school, because I can't afford to fly down there now and again with my family later on. One of the main reasons why I chose it is because of it's strong ties with companies and studios. They seem to have a lot of people coming to look at the graduates. If I bust my ass for four years, I might get a decent job. That's what I'm here for, anyways. |

i want to do illustration. wether it be magazine covers, comic books, or halmark cards. my main dreams are to do concept art for movies/games and matte painting though.
I'm going to learn some 3d stuff on my own on the side, so that I'm more versatile, and then work my way up to concept artist or something.
whaddya think? |

hola, peoples
i really can't say for MICA, but i can talk for ringling. i'm an alumni in computer animation from ringling. in my short experience in the industry the designers that i appreciate and in awe of the most came from one of two schools. the Art Center in LA, and Ringling. I recommend either one.
if you want to see examples from some people from both schools check out this site.
www.conceptart.org
they also have a forum there that's very informative. |

I'm in a weird dilemma too. I"m about done with my undergrad studies in studio arts, and my big dream is to work in film some day, hopefully doing special effects or concept art. I just don't know which program to go into. My thought is this, tell me if this sounds right, I'll go to grad school for 3d graphics and animation because it has aspects of everything involved in film making. I'll have to take ideas from concept to finished product, as well as direct short animations. So if i do get into film industry i will have 3d graphics under my belt as well as concept design and all that stuff. does that sound about right?

Ringling! I'm enrolled there!
Well, it is a very good school. Just extremely expensive. Actually, from what I've heard of other student's opinions: Ringling is great for computer animation because it keeps up with the evolving technology. However, illustration and fine art is traditional and can be learned at many cheaper schools. You can rise to the top no matter what school you attend for the fields as long as they have the supplies and decent instruction.
You may benefit from the environment at Ringling if you choose to go. The class sizes are small and the teachers seem extremely helpful. The school wants you to get a job. High placement rate as well. |
