i have an intuos 9 x 12....i also have dual monitors. the only way the tablet feels comfortable to use is by setting the mapping to the first monitor only. if i have it set to both monitors, my drawing is distorted, its almost impossible to draw an accurate circle. the problem is that i keep all my contol panels on my second monitor so in order to access them i have to drop the pen and pick up the mouse...is there some way around this?

i have the same problem. i work with dual monitors and yeah, you can't set your area to both monitors. it doesn't let allow for a natural stroke when you're painting.

what i did was set the area to the entire 1st monitor in addition to maybe 20% of the second monitor. imo this is ok for painting.

you can access your toolbars with your pen and still have a natural stroke when you're drawing/painting.

you can bind a mouse-/pen-mode toggle to one of the buttons in the pen (note that there's also mouse/pen-mode buttons in the intuos tablet, but personally i prefer the buttons in the pen) OR re-map the surface to cover both monitors. you'll have some unused space in the tablet when doing this and you'll have to get used to shorter strokes too.

(as far as i know) there's no way to bind a button to switch the table mapping between multiple monitors which would be the best solution.

there are ways. but they require a Macro recorder. I don't know any good free ones though. To put it simply, these are programs that record your mouse movements, clicks, things you type etc. So you could just make a macro that starts the wacom driver, and goes and clicks in the appropriate places to make a certain type of mapping. Then speed it up, and play it when you need to change the mapping. You'll need a program that's able to record at least 2 macros. Most of the programs allow you to bind certain macros to certain key strokes. So that way you would be able to press a certain key combo, and it would change the mapping for example from covering both of the screens to covering just the monitor you're working on when drawing.

9x12 is quite a big tablet, you could try mapping accross 75%-100% of your entire desktop space and keeping the mapping more or less proportional, so you would lose a bit of space at the bottom of your tablet (or top if you prefer) and wouldn't have quite so much drawing space but it would probably still be adequate though.

Despite the loss of tablet real estate your drawing would no longer be distorted and you should be able to reach all areas of your screens, try it it's definitely the best solution.

[edit] This is how my mapping is set up accross 2 monitors, it doesn't cover the whole of the second monitor but I'm using a Graphire so space is a little tighter than if it was a 9x12

There is a setting somewhere that allows you to set the tablet in portrait mode. It helps a lot when you have your monitors stacked. In fact, I don't think there is a better way to utilize all of the tablet surface...

why not just learn the hotkeys of the program your using, thats howI work. One hand on tablet, other on keyboard. Also much faster then using mouse.

i'm learning the hotkeys now, but to select colors with swatches and stuff like that...it just makes it so much easier to be able to go back and forth between the monitors...thanks for the help everyone, i'm sure it'll work out fine now!
