OK. Check it out.

I lay all my flats down in RGB mode. Then I select all, copy, open channel palette and create new channel, paste.

It works except for one thing. All my flats in my channel palette are slightly offset from my flats in my layer palette. Does this make any sense? In other words my flats layer and flats channel do not line up right. They are about 1/2 an inch up and to the right.

I did it over and over and still get the same result. My history menu is clean with no wrong "moves" either. THANKS!!

Paste will center the image that you're pasting. So if the layer you copied is partially transparent and off-center, it will be moved.

The better way to do this would be to drag your flats layer onto the 'new layer' button, which will make a duplicate.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and I still get the same affect.

I even opened up the file again to try from scratch.

What else could be happening? It's driving me bananas.

this is just a guess, but it might be that your flats layer is larger than the image... that would also move it...

essentially what Catfish said, but you wouldn't notice it by looking at the transparency...

"Flats"? I have never heard of that b4, I'm sure its quite simple, anyone care to explain?

Fill in each corner of the window with a touch of paint. Select all and paste.
After erase the paints from each of the corners.

Ian: I think "flats" refers to an unshaded version of the image used for creating selections ( typically based on color )

I usually do a "Duplicate Layer..." to be sure it won'T move.
