I'm going to London on May the 9th, what are must see shops, clubs, bars, museums... (not only art-wise) except Tate modern, ICA and Magma bookstore?

I visited the design museum when I stayed in London three years ago. It is near the tower bridge and it was quite interesting.

London is a good place to visit museums , because you can visit a lot of them for free at the moment.

The London Eye is the only tourist attraction that I really recommend, book in advance though unless you enjoy queueing

Otherwise going for a walk down the river is usually a good way to spend an afternoon. Sadly the best known places such as Trafalgar square and (especially) Leicester square are some of the worst of what London has to offer, avoid them like the plague they're ugly and overcrowded.

Museum wise you have good choices, the National Gallery, both the Tates, the National Portrait Gallery. The Natural History Museum is also very good. They are all free but can get crowded on weekends.

Anyway, look out for it.

Gallery : a lot (center of attention, white cube, etc...)

Otherwise :
Take a look at Pepsi trocadero near Picadilly circus (huge arcade gaming place, with ride inside).

Go to the market @ camden town (specially sunday)

Speaker's corner in hide park is really funny.

ICA is great (anyone seen the "LOVE" possession ?)

Oh and take a look at the "crush guide" very helpfool...

When I was there with my family a yeaer ago, my brother spent over three hours in that place

If went back to London now, I would first make sure to bring LOTS of money and then buy tons pf records (and if you are reading this henke, I would also visit you!)

Gen,

there is a fantastic exhibition at Tate Britain (yes in London) at the moment. It's called American Sublime and features about a hundred or so paintings from 19th century American landscape painters. There are some amazing works by greats such as Bierstadt, Church, Cole, Gifford etc. It runs until may the 19th so you'll be just in time. Don't miss this! Here's a link btw...

Hamleys! That's the one, thanks guys.

But check out Harrods, too. The Queen shops there... or did before blah blah blah blah blah. Apparently, they can supply anything (Elephants, Fondu-sets, Ming vases, Uranium)... okay, maybe not the Uranium but they just stock top quality... stuff.

Okay, last time I was in London I was 5 and with my gran, but it seemed like a nice place at the time... I only remember the toystore... *drifts off*

Danny: I only found out about Albert Bierstadt recently and am totally amazed by his paintings. I tried looking for books with his art but, ironically, there isn't anything on Amazon.com or co.uk that's still in print. Would be nice to find an art book with his work, his mountain scenes are awesome.

Ceenda.. you're in the UK right? Scotland wasn't it? If so, you really should consider visiting the exhibition. You of all people (with your fascination for landscapes) will love it. Tate's also selling a book on the exhibition. Perhaps you can obtain one from the website. I remember it being about 20something pounds... Mind you though, the prints look hideous when you've just seen the originals.
