I've seen some really great digital paintings in these forums, and I wanted to know if any of you are into selling them? And if so, how do you go about doing so and what do you charge? It seems like a lot of people are more appreciative of traditional media so I'm curious as to what kind of success you all have had in selling digital images. Thanks

while i'm afraid i can't shed all that much light on it, i have generally found that a major reason for people's, um, 'mistrust' in 'computer generated' (man, i hate that term) involved concern over the perminance of the work, ie. people buying prints of your work tend to be worried that the paper/print will deteriorate over a relatively small amount of time. Convincing them otherwise is usually the biggest struggle for me.
Initially its pretty hard, but encouraging people to 'tell a friend' is suprisingly successfull. As for prices, I am (fortunately) not a position where i rely on an income from selling works, which allows me to make them cheaper. It's a rather sad reality that people think a lower price means lesser quality work though. Personally I'm just trying to get my stuff out there and establish a repuation of sorts.
I'll watch this post with keen interest though, and ignore all the typos i know i must have made. |
