How does one make those textures in photoshop that makes the whole image look sketchy?

Example:In Every Oblagon-piece Ive seen, he uses some kind of wierd pencils so it looks sketchy and floaty.

Its not so much a texture, rather a buildup of brush strokes that make an appearance of texture. If you are observant, you'll notice that Oblagons images may seem simple at first, but they take longer to paint than you think! (he says so in the speed painting threads) hence the buildup of texture simulated by lots of brushwork takes lots of time.

That sort of style is commonly refered to as 'painterly'. I wouldn't refer to the brush work as 'sketchy', because although obviously having visible brush strokes those brush strokes have been carefully placed and take on a life of their own, one that works for the image and its purpose. They are lines that are expressive of their subject matter and form. Unlike a sketch which by its very nature is meant to just be simple, quick and straight to the point. Therefore being 'sketchy' by default.

Hey hope that made sense. I'm sounding a bit like an art teacher..
