How many of you doodleboys and girls are smokers?
I am definitely NOT. I despise it. It literally makes me gag.
However, it seems that us artists have addictive compulsions more often than not, which sorta sucks. I know some people just drink a lot of Coke (caffiene).. and others, well, smoke various things :P
Just wonderin ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Nada me
I hate smoke... anykind really
My dad smoked when he was in college and whatnot... And he has quit (yah right) like 4 times in my lifetime (all of almost 17years) And he knows that he will start smoking again. Bad stuff if you ask me...
Although I do have quite the affection for Dr. Pepper / Mr. Pibb / Soda

I went out with a girl once who smoked. She was really good about not letting me see her while she was inhaling the devil's farts. She was pretty good at making sure I didn't taste the residue in her ashtray mouth either. Lots of Binaca. |

Nah. Doesn't appeal to me. I like to take care of my health, and smoking just wouldn't fit in. I don't drink (Alcohol. Duh.) either, nor do I eat bits of dead animals. And I don't do medication unless I REALLY have to. Last I did was some cough medicine last fall because I couldn't sleep, and before that I don't remember. Not even aspirin if I have a headache, that can be gotten rid of through other means.

I avoid everything and anything potentially addicting/harmful.
I NEVER EVER want to lose control, so I don't drink alcohol.
And, like Affected, I don't use drugs unless I absolutely have to. Don't wanna fuck up my immune system by using antibiotics everytime I sneeze.

You know, it's interesting how the way medication seems to be (or at least seemed to be) thought of as a cure for every little fever and flu has caused a counterreaction... I guess the advent of drug-resistent bacteria has brought that on. I've found, though, that I'm very rarely ill, and I do believe it's because my immune system is naturally strong, not weakened by artificial 'reinforcements'. When your system has to cope on it's own, it has to get stronger. (Unless, of course, it can't cope. That's when medication should come in to the picture, but not otherwise, really.)
One thing that really irks me is the way some people eat painkillers like popcorn. Whenever they have the slightest headache they pop some pills. There are MUCH better ways, no need to stuff anything down your throat.

I had the most terrible migrain the other day/night. I was in so much pain, it made me want to cry. I broke down and had my boyfriend go to the store to buy some medicine. (after suffering with it all day and night) I don't know why it took me so long to take medicine for it. But I always wait until I just can't take it anymore. I tried massage, but nothing would work.
Back to the origional subject. I don't smoke... tobaco. My boyfriend does, but he smokes outside. I can't stand the smell in the house. Plus we have a child who doesn't need lung cancer. I have tried other things, but it's not a big habit that consumes my life. Maybe once every six months or so I will cut lose and drink or smoke. Or maybe a beer or wine while playing cards or whatever... I'm not a real fanatic about being healthy. I drink milk... and umm brush my teeth three times a day..... though... if that counts.

Well, migraines and chronic pain are different matters, of course. I'd count those as things the body can't cope with on it's own. I've found that I can simply push a headache away by closing my eyes and concentrating on it.

Right on, Affected. I won't take asprin or other medicine unless absolutely necessary. Everyone thinks I'm insane. I don't feel so alone anymore :P
oh, and I used to smoke, drink, blah everything, and it's disgusting. I think I was in my 'rebellious teenage' phase. Or something like that.. I don't do any of it anymore, and thankfully I don't get addicted to things very easily so it wasn't hard at all to stop...somehow the only thing I've ever been addicted to was the computer.

I dont find nothing wrong with smoking or an occasional joint after hard days work.
Stronger drugs are cool too during holidays.
It is a fact that alcohol helps you sleep better during night so nothing wrong with that either.
Did i mention that quality drugs help you come up with great ideas?

Non-smoker, but I have enjoyed a few vices on occasion....
I'm currently more into strength/fitness...lifting weights in the morning makes everything else in the day seem so much easier.... I feel we must always try to challenge ourselves... makes life more interesting..
Keep smiling....

It's TV and society in general. People are constantly being told by doctors, the media, commercials and other people to take medication for anything that is of minor nuisance. What scares me the most is the parents that pump their kids up with antibiotics and medication if they so much as sneeze. Besides it's all futile anyway; diseases mutate to survive antibiotics, so doctors make stronger antibiotics and the diseases mutate again. It's a vicious circle, and some doctors have hypothesized that there are only a few more times that antibiotics can be "boosted" before the disease wins over. The government is holding on to a few of these super-antibiotics and are intentionally not releasing them to the general public. I'm afraid though, that peoples hedonistic desire for convenience will win over logic and common sense.
Hellooo extinction! *sigh*

I'm no smoker. And I don't drink alcohol. I don't do drugs. Only occasionally I drink something with caffeine in it. And that is when I really need to stay awake.
I've tried *almost* everything out though. I smoked and drank a lot some years ago because all of my friends did so. ( I'm talking about jnr high in Finland, and here most kiddies start drinking at the age of 11-15 ). The point is, that though I did all that regurarly, I NEVER developed an addiction. I mean I just stopped and that was
it.
I wouldn't engourage anyone to use stronger drugs. I've seen how my jnr high friends are gradually becoming junkies. One of them is dead already. And a guy who had beaten me up three times during jnr high just for fun is just being thrown to jail.
There is no one reason for people losing their lives like that. Some seek comfort in drugs/alcohol, or whatever, some just think it is fun and some people are pricks by nature.
What I get the best vibes out of are lucid
dreaming and self-hypnosis. You can become better in dreaming lucidly you know.
All in all I wouldn't trust humans. They're all just a bunch of greedy little selfish bastars anyway. Luckily I am not.
P. S .
drunken monkey : drinking helps you to lose your consciousness, true, but it can't help you to rest. If you drink alcohol just before going to sleep, the amount of deep sleep decreases and you get to rest less.
( just had to say that )
edit : added opinions on drugs.

Hmm, looks like I'm a bit different compared to y'all. I've smoked since 8th grade, I drink when I feel like it, usually every other weekend. If there's a party I might smoke a blunt or two... I'd never use the stronger drugs though. So, am I unique here?
My opinion differs from yours because I LIKE doing these things. Something bad in it? |

Hi
Never tasted tobacco, and I don't drink alcohol. Well actually I did drink 2 glasses of cider once if that counts . It tasted bad and fucked my state of mind up so I'm back to different kind of colas, which taste good and don't make me another friggin' person.
It's pathetic here in Finland. Knowing my ex-friends are getting themselves drunk as I'm writing this. They tried to get me to join them but after watching them under the influence of alcohol a couple of times and seeing just how idiotic their behaviour was, there was nothing that could've made me drink a single drop. I, in turn, had enough and got rid of everyone I knew with this habit.
I heard from these guys a while ago, after two years. They're still drinking just about every weekend, except some of them, who are now smoking weed. Wow, I wonder if this has anything to do with two of them dropping out of school and now being uneducated&unemployed. One of them actually had a job: he was an assistant for a garbage guy. He quit, though. Have a happy life, fellows.
I guess they don't feel too bad themselves (I wouldn't know) but I couldn't take it anymore. Switching schools helped and I am now left with just a few friends, but at least I can talk reasonably with them (even if they do occasionally drink).
Not wanting drunk ppl around me has fucked some things up pretty bad, too. For my own sake, I have to avoid most big happenings which is ok, but being the only one around here who doesn't drink at all leaves me pretty much alone when anything major happens :[. This kind of isolation from most ppl of my age is the only negative thing I can think of for not drinking/smoking.
I not sure if it's the same in other countries, but looking at dozens of 13+ teenagers stay out most of the weekend nights drinking and smoking god-knows-what their own parents have bought them makes me sad.
Why the hell do they do that, anyway?
"We're fucking pathetic."

Me, I don't really mind others drinking, as long as they don't try to push anything onto me. I get messed up enough without the help of any substances, thank you very much.
so I go to parties or whatnot, no problems there.
Actually, some of my classmates do some weird stuff (mace, anyone?), but I don't much mind. It's their business, and most of them are intelligent people.
Oh, I didn't exactly mean this when I said we're pathetic, more like how isolated from eah other people in the cities are, not knowing our own neighbours. But I guess it fits a whole lot of things.

Affected, You were right about the neighbours back then, and after reading this thread and thinking about it myself, those exact same words popped into my mind. They definitely describe this situation as well. Sorry for using your name with the quote out of its original context, I guess I wasn't thinking clearly.

umm... tell me a simple "do you smoke?" question did not just get out of hand? haha, it's weird how topics get twisted into a whole other ball field. I didn't have time to read the longer replies, or else I would comment more... but I got to go ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

I still don't really believe caffeine does anything. Not that I drink coffee. Only tea and cola. A lot of cola.
Hm.. I've had somewhat lucid dreams, and the most lucid of them wasn't all that fun. I understood a bit too well it wasn't real and it lost the shine.
My dreams sometimes become lucid when I realize that what's happening is just too absurd to be true. (How's being shot with pencil-sized arrows by levitating leeches?)
Oh, I just learned my uncle's started boozing again. He's an alcoholic, obviously, and has also been abusing drugs. (He's a doctor, so he has, or at least had access to all kinds of stuff.) My father started asking around about him when he hadn't answered the phone for some time, and eventually called his psychiatrist. Apparently he had committed a crime of some sort, and had failed to report in to the authorities as well last friday. (He was sentenced to societal service) The shrink went to see him (He lives some way off, so we couldn't really just go check on him) and found him unconcious on the floor. There had been a fire in the apartment earlier, but the fire dept. had sorted that out in time.
I think what worries me most is I just don't care. I seem to get that a lot these days.

I try not to push my opinions on drugs, alcohol, smoking, religion, ethics, morals or religion on anyone else... If someone wants to do these things, who am I to stop them?
I consider my friends smart enough to decide by themselves that drugs aren't exactly healthy. I don't mind other people drinking or smoking either, and as long as they don't preach to me, I don't preach to them.
The irony of all of what I've said is that I am addicted to the internet. Just found out that I've averaged 3h a day on the net. Not all THAT much, but enough to raise the bill through the roof and to worry myself ...
So goodbye.
I'll be peeking back and forth every once in a while, but I'm RADICALLY cutting down using the internet. I will NOT tolerate addictions of any sort. I hate hypocrites above all else and I can't live with myself for having talked about "avoiding anything addictive" and indulging in it myself.
