I've been using Acdsee 3 for many years now, simply because I've always considered it to be the best and fastest image viewer.
Recently I upgraded to Acdsee 4, oh my. That was a big mistake.

Do you guys know if I'm doing something wrong, or is Acdsee 4 EXTREMELY slow!?
Or is it my Dual Athlon 1900+ w 2 GB of RAM and 64 MB Radeon Graphics card that can't handle Acdsee 4!?

Please give me your thoughts on this, or tips for better software.

Never encountered the problem... but I'm not sure I'd recommend upgrading anyways... I like the older versions better I think...

4 sucks donkey shaft.

It crashes on me, and often the thumnails don't display(only see icons of jpg).

I only keep it around when I need to do some light editing that doesn't require the power of photoshop.

For browsing, I swear by the acdsee classic version. Light, fast, and never crashes.

Hehe, Im still using 2.3 cos Acdsee 3 was slow and instable. I hardly use the thumbnail browser, only the viewer itself.

"Slow as shit through a funnel" as one of my coworkers would say. (in dutch of course)

Eyewoo> Glad to hear that. Do you have any idea what I might have done wrong? It's really slow on my fast machine. Any plugins or something?

Thanks.

I'm content with ACDSee Classic myself.. But I realised that from one machine to another animated GIF playing can be seriously different.. On this machine it's slowish and on my crappy machine it's much faster. Go figure !

henrik... No... have no idea. Perhaps removing it and reinstalling, or checking in at their site to see if they have any new updates for XP...

Luna... Not sure of my main graphics card. The guy who built the machine put it in with my OK at the time, but that was some time ago... We're in the process of moving so I'm not sure where the boxes are. My main monitor is a 19" Lacie electron22 blueIII - nice Flat screen. Screen refresh rate is set to 75hz. My second screen is a cheapy Sylvania 17" flat LCD screen.
