Ok, here's the deal. I am drawing a picture for my friend for her b-day. I have gotten it down to the initial sketch, and I have inked it. Now this is all on paper so far, but here is a scan of what I have.



Now, as my first attempt, I am going to digitally colour it beforehand to see what it might look like in the end when I actually colour it with pencil crayons. I have scanned it in at 300dpi, so it is a humongous picture.
Question #1 Should I keep it at the huge resolution and paint it, or should I scale it down to a size I'd like it at (eg. so it fits on my desktop size) before I start colouring? Keep in mind that whenever I have doodled on my computer, and made an "inking", whenever I have tried to colour, I have always resized the image so that the whole image fits on my monitor.

Question #2 I was in my art class a few weeks ago, and I coloured in my "beta" sketch with my friends PrismaColor pencil crayons. Any words on this brand? I am not looking into buying super high quality pencil crayons, but the prismacolours seemed very easy to blend and fade the colours together compared to the Laurentian pencilcrayons I own.

Question #3 In photoshop, I usually colour right onto the picture itself, no layers and such. I am beginning to stray from the "normal" setting on the paintbrush, and am trying new things. WHen I am using "Multiply" mode, and I try to colour a large area, I sometimes have to let go of the mouse button on my pen. But then when I try to continue colouring, wherever I overlap the colour, it gets darker there. Should I be using layers in this case to colour large areas? I guess that would be the most logical answer huh? I guess I sorta answered my own question.

1 if you plan on printing it, keep it hi res, if not scale it to whats most comfortable for you to work with.

2 they are the best, ever. anyone tells you different, they are an untrustworthy communist.

3 set the layer to multiply and leave the brush as normal. this will help you avoid the overlap.

..and, layers are your best friends in photoshop, the more the merrier.

I returned my 23 dollar pencil crayon set, and got the prismacolors, and got 7 bucks back too! woot. I didn't think I needed that high quality of pencil crayons. Just wanted to make sure what others thought first.

Anyhoo, I finished my piece, on paper, I'll post in the finished gallery.
