Is a 21 inches monitor actually 21 inches?
Cause i bought one and the screen display is not 21 inches
The Dimensions (HxWxD)
19.3 x 19.6 x 18.8"
Did i get ripped off? |

You probably have one of those special screens that you need to rotate 45 degrees to get the full 21 inches of width. |

in fact the diagonal of a 16X12inch screen is 20 inches long if i am not mistaken |

If the specs read 21 / 20. That means that its a 21" monitor with a 20" viewable space. The 20" is defined by a diagonal, corner to corner distance.

CRT monitor sizes have always been frame size diagonal. I have an 5-6 year old 21" NEC, but the viewable is only 18.1". That's normal for older monitors to be 2 to even 3 inches smaller viewable than the billed size. Thank god LCD sizes are actual viewable diagonals, if only CRT would do the same.
Also, note if you really got a 21" monitor with 20" viewable, you did good. A lot of 21" monitors today are still only 19.5 - 19.8" viewable. 0.2" doesn't sound like much, but every little bit lessens eye strain that little bit more. |
