AWN has an article discussing the greatest question of a budding Art Student.
http://mag.awn.com/index.php3?ltype=pageone&article_no=1030
Here's the questions you need to ask yourself:
1. Determine your interests and future goals.
2. Are you looking for "training" or "an education?"
3. Get your hands dirty.
Fairly good read. Lots of info. School is only as good as what you put into it.
Here's my course description for my Computer Animation Program at the Academy.
Program Description:
The Computer Animation program will provide students with both the conceptual and technical skills needed to enter the field of computer animation, utilizing Silicon Graphics workstations and Alias/Wavefront Maya software. Strong foundations in storyboarding, drawing, characterization, modeling, and animation are coupled with training in digital video and audio, as well as professional post-production techniques. Additional coursework in design provide further application of animation skills, and a foundation of general education course work rounds out the student's knowledge base. As they work toward program completion, students produce projects for competition and portfolio that prepare them to start their careers.
I'm in my 4th week and in just a few short classes have learned alot of things I thought I already knew, but was self taught before and now I can see more technical and yet more precise way to do alot of things. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Hey Dekard, by any chance are you reffering to the Academy of Art College in SF. I'm thinking of applying there but I'm getting mixed views on that college. If you are there, how is it? The environment, people, facilities? I'm about 3000 miles away, and I don't know whether I should visit the college or not. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I'm actually attending the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, FL. It's nice so far though, learning alot. Well worth the dough in my opinion. You just have to put in what you want to get out in my opinion. |
