Try these links ...

Add site to Google
Add site to Altavista
Add site to Yahoo (a major pain in the A$$!!)

You should be able to find out how this works on the pages that pop up. Time delay from submission to inclusion in their databases vary wildly, they claim 4-6 weeks but I've seen it happen instantly, and also after about 12 weeks.

Many of the good search engines will find your site themselves after a period of time.

If you have money to throw away you can pay someone to submit your site to a zillion search engines. For example these guys Worldsubmit.com

Also do yourself a favor and add some metatag keywords to your page. That way searches at a search engine will be more likely to find it. (ie: it might make your submissions efforts more worthwhile).
[If you don't know what I'm talking about, (which I guess is likely because I wasn't that clear) I've made a quick websearch and these pages should offer good explaination.

metatag help at Jimworld

Altavista metatags info

OH,
Well, you aren't quite web illiterate after all. Most people don't even know what I'm talking about if I mention anything regarding HTML coding etc. You are far ahead of the curve. Good luck on the site.

IF you want your site in the Search Engines there are a couple things to do..

Make sure your copy is full of keywords, and make sure those keywords appear several times on the pages.

Go to the SE's and try and add the site yourself.

Next have other people add links to your site (this is one of the BEST way to improve your rankings on Google).

Do not try to trick the search engines such as adding hidden words.

You can use MetaTags, athough now days they're not as important as the copy. For example: Google doesn't even use them.

Try for Google, Yahoo, Inktomi, and FAST. That would be a good start.
