Hi! im new on this board but i've checked
this forum site out from time to time, also keeping an eye on dhabi's site. He's just amazing on making thoes sweet images. Althou hes not so good on making tutorials , so i thought i'll ask you guys if anyone know a site where you can get some nice help on how to do shading/smudging/dodging etc. to get thoes sweet colors. I've done a sketch, wich i drawed on paper and then scanned, and now i have colored it, but i just don't know how to get it so "sweet" i you know what i mean?
Thanks in advance! |

Check for the url's in people's signatures, use a search robot, and read a lot of the messages around.
Akolyte's comment is the best advice you can get so there's no need to respond all irritated.
There is no 'best of' tutorial site. Hundreds of good links are in the forum itself, but you'll have to browse around for them.
My first encounter with digital art was polykarbon.com, which focuses on comic art. |

Digiworx.. Akolytes msg was meant to impart that to be a good artist takes alot of hard hard work and self criticism. Most if not all the best artist on the forum tend to be very self critical regarding their work.. which means they always find things that can be improved upon thereby pushing themselves to better their best work.. This is a never ending process.
Akolytes words were mere advice and i think that your rude reply was totally unjustified. If u are looking to be spoonfed on how to produce good art on this forum.. i think u had better look else where.
BTW, I think you blew your chance for anybody wanting to give u good comments and criticicms on your artwork if u do intend to post them in the future.. if u persists on such infantile outbursts.
If u really wanna salvage any goodwill left on this forum.. i suggest u apologise for your rude reply to Akolyte. Noone here is obligated to teach anyone, but ppl do so because they want to(forwhatever reason they do so is unimportant.. I for one am thankful that they do). Being rude gets u nowhere IMO.

I'm sorry if I have offended you, but there is no magic trick. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet that are easibly accesible through countless search engines and through many of the artist's sites that post here. Please try to refrain from expecting your artwork to be magically gifted one day by following a tutorial. It won't. Tutorials don't make your images "sweet." Albeit they are a shortcut to a particular artist's style/procedure, they will not give you the years of practice and determination that is needed to render much of the artwork that you call "sweet." |

Ok, maby my reply was a little bit too..irritated. I do apologize , but i just don't like when you get an answer , that sounds like you-don't-know-jack-and-im-gonna-teach-you !
maby what i wrote just complicated things..
all i wanted was some urls.
Sporq, did i say Dhabis tut sucked?
- no i didn't.
Thanks Jome, for an answer.
Man, u guys really made me feel like a real
newbie. I've been doing art since the amiga,
but nothing (almost) when it comes to airbrushing-like gfx. Maby i don't handle the language so good. If it's lessons in life
and on how complex somethings are to create - you get for answer when you ask a question , im not sure if i wanna be a part
of this forum.
peace. |

no offense, or anything, but you certainly did sound like a newbie, from your initial question... and that response to akolyte's post didn't help things very much, either... if you're serious about not wanting to be a part of this forum based on a few posts in response to a rather rude post, then, well, no one can stop you... however, if you've taken a look around these forums, as i'm sure you have, you'll realize that you'll be missing out on one of the best internet communities i've ever come across, be it in terms of politeness, talent (sorry for using the "t" word, guys! ), sheer educational value, etc...
now, if you're willing and able to take criticism (it's a hard pill to swallow, but you get used to it after a while... ), this is probably one of the best places you can visit on the internet...
but if you're serious, then so be it...
ps.

i'm not sure why this, in particular, has you so miffed... you say you've been doing artwork since the days of the amiga... if that is the case, then you, of all people, should know that what's been said is the truth... oh well... |

you obviously haven't been listening to the advice some of us have taken the effort to give (in addition to still being rather rude)... since it seems apparent that you're looking for a quickie tutorial, rather than working hard to develop your own style, then yes, maybe altavista might be a good one... heck, try askjeeves, yahoo, and google, while you're at it...
good luck, and good riddance...

This is one of the few place you're likely to enconter someone who can say that and have it be true. Count yourself lucky if they take interest enough to comment or teach you. There's some frightfully good talent here; the kind of talent where it's obvious they've forgotten more than the rest of us will ever know. Welcome to the forum.

This tutorial seems to help point beginners in the right direction. Of course, you will still need to practic the technique a few thousand times before you get any amazing results. |

Last time I checked, raist's tutorial is pretty 'sweet'.
But because it's hosted by Gameart (same as my site) and Gameart is going down soon, I'd encourage you to read it throughly. |

Welcome to the forums... home of the ravenous creature known as the artist.
Each individual within the pack will undoubtedly show signs of hostility towards the younger cubs.

hey!
I just started reading this thread and decided to skip to the bottom.. though I probably missed the kiss and make up part.
Just want to say that I've been reading Sijun message threads for a while and have seen many a newbie ask for help and get oodles of it without all the flack.
Weren't you all newbies at one time? Probably not so many years back? How'd you feel the first few times you worked up your courage to ask for help? I doubt that all of you were as confident then as you *seem* to be now.
Anyway.. here's my offering to the newbie (sorry.. I forgot to remember your name, newbie):
Don Seegmiller does some work that I would describe as sweet. He also has some nice painting tutorials on his site. If nothing else, his work is a pleasure to see. Here's the URL:
http://www.seegmiller-art.com
Be nice, guys. You all sound pretty youthful and silly to me when you're putting each other down.
Yay for being mature and kind to each other!
signed...
grandma Jinny (actually.. great grandma as of 12/5/01.. how's about that?)

Jin, yes I was a newbie once, but long before the internet, and I had absolutely no one to ask for help. If I'd stumbled into a place like this as a newbie I would have been ecstatic, lurked a *long* time, and then extremely careful with the words I used (in fact what I did when I first came here, I think I lurked like 6 months or more).
It was the "stfu" in the second post that got to me; in case anyone doesn't know this means "Shut the f@ck up" - IMO that's just not acceptable. (I could write a lot about why I think this, it's a soap-box thing with me, but I won't bore you with that right now.) |

cmon guys-
the real reason, why you dislike to give tips is, that the technic how to use PS or P is the half of a good artwork!
Its truth that its not ok if someone copies the style of an artist, but how could u develop an unique style if u dont know anything?
I think its ok , when someone dont make public is way of creating, but if someone puts his tut on a website-it is okay to ask for it.
Hm, at the asker, polycarbon.com is the best site I have in mind , but I am not (yet) a painter more the COmicguy-
SO for Comic u can lern alot there and for painting , yeah search in google for tuts...

I've never really experienced anyone on here trying to keep their bag of tricks for themselves... except spooge who was diverting from teaching his style due to it having a negative economic effect on him (or something of the like)
I don't think this forum could even exist the way it does now if people would not want to help other people, and in most cases go out of their way to help other people.
And I think it's only fair when someone comes along and asks for tutorials in a manner that feels lighthearted and extremely newbie like, gets a sarcastic - yet true - answer, and then gets pissed off because there weren't links posted instead, that the people here get pissed off.
Too much taken for granted. |

strata
perhaps the question was strange, yeah, but I cannot agree .
In this Forum not everyone is equal-Good artist get always good critics and Newbies are very rough treated...
Of course , not everyone, but many people.
And of course , there are alot of heplfull ppl, especially in the WorkinProgress |

I'm glad for the tutorial-links some people here have posted...they are really usefull & i must say that without them i would still
know nothing about how to go from sketch to
a colorfull image. I do not follow the tutorials exactly but i look on how most people approach a sketch & what they do with it. So i get an..how do you say..."a wider perspective". And then work from that - to develope a technique/stile , that works for me.
It's funny how my first post launched (my fault since i missunderstood & replyed with an attitude not so nice) a debate , when all i wanted was some urls.
Thank you to all who posted one.
(looking forward to hear some critics from all you guys when i post my first "attempt"
in the work in progress-section) |

Actually I've found that going to the public library and looking up books on real life airbrushing techniques helps a lot with digital work... those people have been hitting these kind of effects long before the digitally elite have been working their magic.

"Man, u guys really made me feel like a real

...a cooler-than-thou demo scene pixel artist perhaps? A few demo scene artists (including myself), even some VERY famous ones, have come here to learn and be humbled by some of the talent and experience sharing. Hang around here, read the posts, and learn. That's the best way to do it -- if you're serious about becoming a better artist, that is.
Best of luck with your work and on the forums. |
