I figure this thread might be helpful for Sijun members who want replies to their post.
Ok, I'm first
REPLY TO
- I reply when i see someone put alot of effort in his/her pic. I would hate it if some one post a half assed work on the Gallery/Finished forum.
- I reply when a pic in particular get me interested (Obvious!) So things that interested me are (Well drawing of pretty female, human potraits, cool robots.....well... basicly good art works in general
- I reply when a person ask for a critique/comment. Or type something at least...
DON'T REPLY TO
- I don't reply thread that contain these kind of typing: JeEfFfFfFf Kekeke!11 IZ da BeST! Leeeeeeeee33t HaxxxXor!!! LOL!
-------------------------------
there are sooo much more but i couln't think of them all. I'll add more once it comes up again. And sorry mod, this could belong in the random musing section but i find it is necessary to go there

I don't reply to posts which are utter bullshit.
Since I'm not very active here, I reply to stuff that is somehow especially interesting for me. |

I don't reply to anything where a person's screwing around, or where someone just didn't put anything into the pic. I do critique people who have tried their best, or new people who are just starting out here. I think a warm welcome is important. |

I usually reply to posts that haven't been "over-posted" and that I can add some value to...or humor. If I see a Photoshop topic and the number of replies is 5+, I'll leave it alone. Most of the folks here are all pretty darn knowledgable, so the after 5+ replies the postee has probably already got answers to his/her problem. |

I usually post under one of two sets of circumstances:
1. The art has obviously had a lot of effort put into it, and I have some advice for the artist that nobody has yet given.
or
2. The art strikes a particular chord with me. For example, I don't usually reply to Mr. Mullins' threads, because any crits I'd give have generally been addressed by someone else by the time I get there. I did reply to his Wolfenstein thread, though, because I love the game, and seeing the picture made me very happy.
So, basically I'll reply if I've got a useful crit, or for purposes of conversation. It's pretty random.
What I WON'T reply to is art that's obviously just up there to take the piss, art that doesn't have much work put into it, and art that simply doesn't interest me.
Also, I won't generally respond to threads by people whom I've noticed writing rude/disrespectful comments to other people.
Edit - Also...shame on me! I'm much more likely to answer posts by people I know than posts by complete strangers. It isn't a clique thing, though. I just think that people who've already e-mailed or ICQ'd me asking for my opinion are much more likely to value my suggestions than people I don't know from Adam. I like to know that the artists I post to will react well to crits as well as praise, and really do want advice.

I usually reply if they haven't had a reply yet, I have a good critique to give them, or I just plain love the picture no matter how many had replied previously. I try to do my best with the critiques but I'm just not as knowledgable as I wish I was. And I wish people would actually reply to mine, sigh! (which is probably the wish of most unknown sijuners like I!) |

It all depends on what's been said, and what needs saying. If a pic is fantastic, but there are already a lot of posts saying so, I'll assume that my compliment isn't going to be the one that makes that artist's day, and I'll just look. If somebody hasn't got a lot of crits, or I think that I have something to add that nobody's posted about yet, I'll post; this is pretty rare here, though, since there's a very high concentration of people who know what they're talking about. |

I reply to
1)interesting Random Musings thread.
2)People that I'm familiar with, or really sincere request for critique.
3)Artwork that really interested me.
4)technical questions I have answers to.
I don't reply to:
1)people that havn't bothered to learn the basics and demands critique.
2)poetry threads. I havn't written any since high school.
3)Trolls. Unless I REALLY need to vent and cuss the f*%ker out.
4)Really great art, but subject matter not of interest to me. I admire the technique, but have nothing to say.
5)Questions that have been asked a zillion times. |

In general I'll reply to posts that are thought out and written pretty well. After all, this is about visual and written communication, I won't waste my time on someone who isn't clear or who isn't honestly seeking an answer that will forward their understanding or work.
I've kept myself from replying to folks who have been told how to proceed and then blatantly, idiotically hold on to their current 'style' when it should be obvious that it's not getting them anywhere, but they are safe with it, or their friends (who usually have very little knowledge of how to work through any of these processes) tell them it's 'cool'.
I have tended to avoid the galleries and so my posts end up here.
By the way, I think this is actually a great question to have asked, and hope that many learn from it. Funny how it's the simple things, yeah?

"PL33Z COME AND CRIT MY AMAZIIING CARTOONZ!!!?!?!?!!"
[EDIT - oops, changed that title, figured somethingawful humour may not be appreciated by some]

I REPLY TO :
1: If I open the thread and I say " Hey that looks nice " if I do that then it deserves a comment.
2: If I can actually give helpful critique unlike some here people I don't just critique to be an a-hole.
I DO NOT REPLY TO :
1: Obvious forum trolls.
2: Bad artwork by people who would be considerd lower end elfwood artists.
3: Manga/anime related topics that are obviously none creative. There are exceptions like that Dementia7 guy and that gu DUCK.
4 : Certain members who think there shit don't stink and rip on people because they think there a high and mighty artist.
A lot of people over think posting a comment and so a lot of good threads don't get comments. A lot of people really do just want to hear there stuff looks good if it does and not just what ever is wrong with it!!

I usually respond if someone is asking technical help on an app. that I use a lot.
I respond to art that I like, that has a lot of work/thought in it, not some 30sec. doodle-this does not include the speed painting thread, I love that one, just wish I could do it...
and finally, what is a troll?
thanks |

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE!!!! (emphasis on the word hate) threads that deal with Religion.
I myself am a religious person and it never fails, curiosity drives me in there and BAM….. I’m offended…. It sickens me to hear people call themselves mature and yet they cannot respect my or anyone else’s beliefs no matter how off the wall it may sound. Instead they have to trash it. If you don’t believe good, just say so, but don’t badmouth those who do believe.
I will NEVER read one of those threads again…..
But I like threads that contain female nudity |

for some reason i have a hard time thinking of anything to say in the galleries. i'm more likely to reply in this section of the forum, or 'random musings'.
i've been wondering why, and i'm not sure ~_~. as a novice and non-painter i just feel more like an observer. |

hey, I'm REEAAAALLLLYY curious to know if anyone doesn't reply posts which involve clicking on a URL-link to see the artwork, instead of it just appearing in the post itself.
Many of these posts get sweet FA replies, it seems. |

I almost always click a url. I even go so far as to click/drag any geocities link or copy and paste a url into the address bar.
Sometimes, if I think the picture is good enough (I've done this before) I'll host the image on my server so more people can see it. I hate to see a great picture drop to the second page just because an artist temporarily lost hosting - or whatever reason. |

Yeah...I was wondering about that myself today, because I'm going to have to install a CGI script on my own server to prevent outside linking. Thanks to people posting pictures all over the Internet without my permission (and linking directly to them), my $30/month hosting plan ballooned to $50 last month...and it was even worse the month before, when I had not yet noticed what was going on.
Hopefully, I'll be able to modify the script to allow myself to post to Sijun, but since I won't be installing it myself, I'm not sure how much control I'll have over that sort of thing. |

Oh yeah... and here is another thing which causes me not to respond to certain people.
Somebody posts a half-assed image and begs for replies, yet when someone offers a crit they go off.
Oh yeah... harrr... my anatomy is totalled screwed up because its my "style".
Sure it is.
"The lighting is completely wonky, the brushstrokes look like they were laid down by a child having a seizure... can't you see thats my art man? Thats my STYLE!!"
I really hate it when people act like that. Trust me, most people know the difference between style and inexperience. You can't cover up your lack of knowledge with a bunch of scribbles and expect everyone to fall for it.
This goes the same for people that post good artwork and don't accept critiques. Or people that go so far as to put other people down and call them names when they offer suggestions. Sometimes you just gotta wake up and realize you're not perfect. You CAN learn from people, even if they aren't as good at drawing or painting. |

uhm yeah. replying to replies...that's my worst fault, well on the forums anyway.
I often forget to look at the topic for weeks to see if anyone replied to me-I'm a goof, ok?
Lunatique-thanks for the troll explanation, sorry for the delay in response.
As for clicking on URL's I do, cause I can't post to a BB, so I feel like it's good karma to go find other people's work, since all I can do is hope they come looking for mine...Thanks, Don |

Jezebel - hummmm I wonder who brought that one up? lol.
Respond:
1. People who want the help and you can see they tried.
2. If I really want to get my 2 cents in on a really really stupid thread.
3. One that just spark my interest.
Don't:
1. Over posted htreads
2. Threads that I would just be repeating someone else (unless it's a complaiment then people can't get enough of htose when they do a good job.) |
