I am trying to do a digital painting. My brush is set to normal. The layer i am painting on is set to normal. The brush opacity is set to 70%. The layer i am painting on is set to 100%. Size and Opacity of the brush set to stylus and color option is off. What is happening is when i paint a bit then go back over it it looks like it "overlays" the paint. How do i fix this problem. Does everything have to be painted with the brush opacity turned to 100%? please help cuz Im stuck. http://www.geocities.com/wayne1343/brush.jpg |

i believe there should be a brush option to turn "build-up" on or off... well, it's in PSP, at least, and i'm assuming it's in PS as well... only problem with this is that once you actually lift the pen and start with a new line, you will overlay the paint... not sure how to get around that particular problem, actually... |

That's normal behavior for Photoshop.
Learn to switch between Stylus/Opacity "on" and "off" for a more opaque stroke. When it's on, I almost always paint with 100%. I paint quite a bit with Stylus/Opacity off once I've got a decent color range in the are I'm working on. It helps if you learn to sample close variations with the eye dropper by holding down the option key (for mac --alt key for PC?) while you're using any drawing tool.
Once you get used to it, you'll discover it's indespensible.
