Aside from being lighter and smaller (and pretty damn cool,) are LCD monitors better color-wise than CRT monitors?
I have both an LCD and a CRT. Ever since I've been using the LCD, I've been able to capture the right color I want. When viewed on other people's computers (mainly on CRTs) the image varies, yet it's "correct" somehow.
Adjusting the brightness and color temperature is easier, but I left it on the manufacturer default. The sharpness is great as well. When viewed on a CRT, it looks like it has lower quality, but it shows it's the monitor's fault.
My opinion, the LCD is better and seemed to improve my artistic eye. Anyone have any opinion between LCDs and CRTs? |

most lcd's dont have the color range that crt's do. apple's do, and others are soon to follow suit. i think what you are seeing is the brightness. lcd's are something like 50% brighter than crt's which makes picking colors much easier. also, you dont get any of the distortions that you get with crt's, so what you see is what you get. with these things helping you pick color more accurately, it's no wonder that the colors seem "correct" no matter where they are viewed. another great thing about lcd's is that you virtually eliminate any refresh or radiation problems, which means a healthier work enviroment. healthier body, and more importantly, eyes
all i know is that when this monitor craps out, im goin lcd all the way. |

Until LCD manufacturers resolve the issues of fixed resolution and stuck-on pixels, I'm a CRT man. |

to me it sounds a bit like you've got a good lcd and a crappy crt. triniton (or other tension masks) are imho a must for a crt used for graphic design / painting due to the much more vivid and accurate colors. however they usually do lack a bit of sharpness in higher resolutions compared to shadow masks. your problem with the crt may also be of calibration nature and/or color profile.
crt is the way to go with graphics, today. i have no doubt however that tomorrow holds something different for us all... |

for now, most of the Lcd screens are stuck on 1280, no higher res , that sucks a lot on the 17-18' screens ..
by the way i heard lcd screens tire less the eyes |

CTR monitor has been around for 49382842943282 years so I believe it is better than the new one.
Gimme 5 more years and i'll switch to LCD though. |

for digital art - painting or 3D, LCD screens are useless. I've got a 17" LCD for making music, but that's a different application ... |

Hi, new user here. o_o; Just something that came to mind when I saw this post. Wacom has a series of tablet that basically has an LCD screen built in. (the Cintiq series, formerly called the PL series) They say that these [very expensive] tablets can be used for art and illustration, but by this thread, it seems like it isn't as great as it seems. 1024x768 resolution as well...although I could see the money going towards a high quality professionally calibrated lcd screen...?
(still peeved that intuos2 tools don't work with intuos1, and visa versa) |
